What is Career Launch?
Career Launch is Akron Children's Hospital's premier workforce development program, designed to help you complete your degree at no cost so you can focus on your future-not the price of tuition.
We are thrilled to announce an exclusive partnership with the University of Akron to relaunch their two-year associate's degree in nursing program, beginning in Spring 2025. This collaboration will create a dedicated cohort with a curriculum that emphasizes pediatrics, providing a unique and cohesive learning experience.
Program Highlights:

- Flexible Schedule: Available full-time or part-time.
- Convenient Locations: Classroom lectures at the Akron or Medina campus or live streamed at Akron Children's, with labs and clinicals offered in and around Medina and Akron.
- Class Times: Primarily Tuesday through Thursday, 8 am - 2 pm.
- Comprehensive Support: 100% prepaid tuition, fees for uniforms, books, and supplies.
- Barrier Removal: The program offers transportation and childcare reimbursement assistance as needed, and a dedicated hospital mentor to help you stay on track.
Program pending Ohio Board of Nursing and Higher Learning Commission approval
Two Pathways to Success:
Traditional Route: Work for Akron Children's on a PRN (as needed) or part-time basis while attending the University of Akron. Our recruitment team will help you find a position that matches your skills and experience. After graduation, you'll commit to working with us for two years.
Plus Route: Focus entirely on your education by attending classes full-time. Once you graduate, you'll begin working at Akron Children's and fulfill a three-year work commitment.
How Do I Qualify?
We seek candidates who align with our three core promises:
- To treat every child as we would our own
- To treat others as they would like to be treated
- To turn no child away
Participants in Career Launch are expected to demonstrate determination, motivation, and a commitment to completing their education while excelling in their role at the hospital. High professionalism, strong communication skills, and teamwork are essential.
Important Note: Selected candidates must receive full acceptance to the University of Akron. Curriculum details and admission requirements will be available on the university's website once the program has been fully approved. Should board approval be delayed, program start dates may be adjusted or canceled accordingly.
