Our client, a large New England retailer, is seeking an experienced Director of Marketing.
The Director of Marketing is the most senior Marketing Officer and a member of the Senior Management Team, reporting to our General Manager and COO. The Director of Marketing will manage a four-person team.
The Director of Marketing should have extensive data analysis skills and be very comfortable developing, analyzing, and presenting KPIs, as well as making adjustments and recommendations to budgets and strategies based on data. The Director of Marketing will be expected to spend approximately half of their time working in the department by carving out some of the tasks currently managed by the Marketing Manager, and approximately half of their time on management, strategy, and coordination with other departments and the senior team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning:
- Become familiar with and evaluate the Company’s existing marketing strategy, developed over several years.
- Develop and execute an updated comprehensive marketing strategy focused on brand management, efficient lead generation, and revenue growth.
- Conduct market research of existing customer base to identify opportunities for improvement, referral, and market share gains.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing team of four professionals.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages professional growth and creativity.
- Set clear performance objectives and provide regular feedback to team members.
- Channel Management:
- Oversee all marketing channels, including television, OTT, radio, and internet advertising, along with limited print advertising.
- Manage relationships with external agencies, partners, and vendors to optimize advertising efforts and ensure alignment with brand messaging.
- Evaluate vendor performance and address any issues to ensure optimal results.
- Brand Development:
- Enhance brand awareness and reputation across all customer touchpoints.
- Ensure consistency and cohesiveness in brand messaging and visual identity.
- Develop and implement branding initiatives that differentiate the products and services in the marketplace.
- Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Evaluate existing KPIs; recommend new KPIs as applicable and analyze existing data and data insights to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to inform marketing tactics and positioning.
- Implement tools and systems to track and report on marketing performance metrics.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of sales data to support strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on marketing KPIs, and growth opportunities to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
- Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize ROI.
- Monitor and report on the financial performance of marketing initiatives.
- Collaborate with the CFO and Controller to develop an annual marketing budget that supports strategic goals and revenue objectives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Sales, Service, and other departments to ensure alignment of marketing strategies with business objectives.
- Contribute to service offerings and customer experience initiatives by providing market insights and customer feedback.
- Participate in regular weekly Senior Management meetings and quarterly offsites to provide updates on marketing strategies and outcomes.
- Improving Customer Experience:
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the overall customer experience, ensuring customer needs and expectations are met.
- Collaborate with sales and other teams to streamline processes and improve response times.
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Develop plans and help to train Sales, Service, and Delivery team members on best practices for delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Play a leading role in showroom design and customer experience.
- Develop relationships with marketing personnel of the primary manufacturer and attend the annual Dealer Conference.
- Develop relationships with key marketing personnel at other leading dealers in the national Best Practices group.
- Coordinate with the Senior Sales Manager on oversight of the CRM (HubSpot), including optimizing lead management and drip campaigns for both product and services sales.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree helpful but not required.
- Minimum of 7+ years of marketing experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing strategies that drive business growth.
- Strong expertise in digital marketing, including social media, SEO, SEM, and email marketing.
- Experience in television advertising and managing multi-channel marketing campaigns.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor, inspire and motivate others.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
