About Corewell Health South - Lakeland Hospitals The health system comprises three hospitals, an outpatient surgery center, a regional cancer center, rehabilitation centers, two long-term care residences, home care and hospice services, and 34 affiliate physician practice locations. We provide both inpatient and outpatient medical services throughout Southwest Michigan.
Scope of Work The Graduate Nurse plays a key role in the delivery of caring, competent patient care in conjunction with a mentoring Registered Nurse. Will perform assessments in an ongoing and systematic manner, formulate a goal directed plan of care and implement delegated interdependent and independent direct care activities based on skills learning and clinical training, assessment findings and evaluation of any previous interventions. Collaborates with mentoring RN on the nursing process, supporting documentation and other items as appropriate.
It is expected that Graduate Nurses will successfully obtain certification/licensure from the State of Michigan and transition into a Registered Nurse role within 60 days.
Essential Functions - Administers care to a designated group of patients under direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Gives professional nursing care to all patients and their families, by using the delegated, interdependent and independent functions of nursing to maintain the standard of care.
- Utilizes the nursing process as a means to assess for intervention in all levels of care, in analyzing and evaluating the clinical picture of the patient and as a means for using critical thinking skills in active problem solving. Performs assessment in an ongoing and systematic manner formulating a goal directed plan of care, which is prioritized and utilizes nursing diagnosis in partnership with mentoring Registered Nurse.
- Implements delegated interdependent and independent direct care activities skillfully based on skills learning and clinical training, assessment findings and evaluation of any previous interventions. Evaluates the care given using the Plan of Care (Standards of Care), revising and deleting problems as needed.
- Identifies patient learning needs through the assessment process and mutually establishes education goals with the patient/family, looking for the teachable moment, and implementing measures to meet these goals.
- Establishes priorities in patient care assignments, based on essential patient care needs and availability of unit resources in terms of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
- Uses the Plan of Care (Standard of Care) to guide the documentation of the care delivered, demonstrating any necessary revisions for the individual patient. Documents care given using the nursing process and critical thinking skills.
- Performs efficiently in patient and family emergency situations, following established policies, procedures and protocols. Remain calm, documents events accurately, informs appropriate persons, and seeks ways to decrease risk.

Qualifications - Associates in Nursing Required
- Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required within 60 days
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
