Overview
Summary:
The Surgical Technician reports to the Manager and Assistant Managers and works under the supervision of Professional Registered Nurse. Responsible for functioning in the scrub role by preparing the necessary sterile instruments and equipment to be used on the surgical field.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists other members of the OR team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care duties. 2. Practices aseptic technique while assisting with all surgical procedures. 3. Ensures the readiness of the surgical suite. 4. Maintains professional standards by participating in in-services, committees, staffing needs. 5. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. 6. Maintains professional accountability by participating in in-services, committees, and staffing needs. 7. May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines. 8. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Credentials:Nonessential: Cert Surgical Technician
Education:Essential: Technical/Vocational Diploma
Other information:
1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or obtained non-degree accredited certificate of completion for Surgical Technologist that is current. 2. Licensure: Certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred. AHA BLS Certification required. Some departments have additional advanced CPR requirements as listed on staff annual education record. Non-degree accredited certificate of completion Surgical Technologists are required to maintain active certification through accredited body and complete additional required skills listed below. a. Additional Skills (required): For non-degree graduates with an active accredited certificate of Surgical Technologist course completion the following additional requirements apply: successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing, successful completion of surgical technologist specific skills labs and competency testing 3. Experience: None.
