Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a
Principal or Sr Principal Field Engineer.This position is located in
Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.
What You'll Get To Do: Join a Field Engineering team supporting initial planning and deployment of Sentinel during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase at various locations. This is an exciting and dynamic opportunity to work across a multi-disciplinary team and be a part of the next generation of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. The role will Be part of the Sentinel Deployment & Manufacturing team and perform hands on technical and leadership tasks during weapon system installation and integration activities. The successful candidate will conduct deployment planning including but not limited to:
- Work closely with several diverse Integrated Product Teams as well as provide guidance to manufacturing engineering, logistics and operations staff.
- Work closely with the local design and production team to ensure successful deployment in the field.
- Serve as the technical lead on site during physical installs of ground segment and weapons systems operations for several months at a time.
- Collaborate with other teammates and has reach-back to engineering for problem analysis and resolution.
- Work within a diverse team in a dynamic environment.
- Develop and mature plans required to deploy to the field.
- Build briefings for leadership on status.
- Develop and review field installation instructions.
- Work closely with the Military/Government customer as well as internal Northrop Grumman engineering teams.
- Assist and develop proficiency with performance of other engineering and operational duties as required.
- Provides recommendations and optimization of repair and overhaul processes by accomplishing studies and evaluations of engineering design throughout the sustainment of the program.
- Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution.
- Coordinate and be custodian of Field Executions inventory of materials and equipment to be used in the field.
- Coordinate Deployment & Manufacturing vehicle fleet (track maintenance, conduct weekly inspections, manage reservations, etc.)

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You'll Bring These Qualifications: - Principal Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science with 5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 0 years of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- Sr. Principal Field Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science with 9 years of experience; or Master's degree with 7 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- Candidate must have experience in the sustainment of military systems and equipment.
- Candidate must have solid written and verbal skills to effectively interact with Government counterparts, other defense contractor organizations, and other cross-functional organizations.
Required for Both Levels: - Must be able to use engineering drawings for troubleshooting and use standard desktop computer and Windows based tools to produce or edit documents including drawings, plans, procedures and reports.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an Active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
- A basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Candidate must be willing to work extended hours to meet deadlines.
- Candidate will be required to perform physically demanding work outside, to include standing for long periods of time, crouching, exposure to elements, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. First 0-12 months 10-15% travel, after first 12 months travel ramp up to 50-75%.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have: - Previous Northrop Grumman experience with Standard Policies and Procedures
- Experience working in several of the following engineering disciplines: Test Engineering, Field Engineering, Hardware Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Software Deployment, Cyber Security, and Network Engineering.
- Knowledge of Agile principles
- Experience being deployed/TDY for extended periods.
- Experience in planning for deployment of a weapons system.
- Prior USAF - Missile Maintenance experience in the 2M0X1, 2M0X2, or 2M0X3 career field is highly desirable.
- Experience working with deployed programs or related Defense systems.
- Experience in military, government, commercial aerospace industry (e.g. aviation/equipment maintenance, aircraft operations, or commercial industrial technology companies)
Salary Range: $76,600 - $115,000
Salary Range 2: $95,000 - $142,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
