Healogics is the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, treating more than 300,000 chronic wound patients annually across over 600 sites. With an aging society, obesity and diabetes on the rise, and an uptick in surgical procedures, the number of patients with non-healing wounds that would benefit from expert care is dramatically increasing. As a result, the company is working to provide our differentiated, quality outcomes to as many patients that would benefit through our out-patient clinic partnerships.
The Wound Care and Ostomy Nurse will primarily provide clinical evaluation and the initial plan of care for inpatient wound and ostomy services and provide nursing support to the outpatient Wound Care Center (WCC)®, if needed. The individual in this role will provide consultation, educational, knowledge, skills and support of the bedside nurse to manage patients at risk for pressure injury development, as well as patients with wounds and/or ostomies and educational services to patients and their family members to assist them in the management of their individual wound care and ostomy needs. The Wound Care and Ostomy Nurse will report to the Program Director of the Wound Care Center (WCC)®, as well as maintaining a dotted line reporting structure to the Senior Director of Inpatient Services with Healogics.
Responsibilities
The responsibility and accountability for day-to-day patient care will continue to rest with the individual nurse responsible for the patient, unit-based resource nurses and the Nurse Manager of each unit. The Wound Care Nurse will also serve as a resource to the hospital regarding:
- National Patient Safety Goals related to pressure-injuries.
- Cost effective, appropriate utilization of wound care dressings, supplies, ostomy supplies and pressure redistribution surfaces.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Adhere to established medical/ nursing practice standards and hospital policies and procedures
- Provide wound care and ostomy consultations and educational support to inpatients and their family regarding wound and/or ostomy management
- Provide stoma site marking services as requested
- Provide clinical support and coordination for inpatient wound and/or ostomy services on a consultative basis
- Facilitate consultations by specially trained wound care physicians as necessary
- Contribute to nursing orientation with a focus on skin assessment, documentation and prevention of pressure injuries
- Function as a resource to staff for wound and ostomy product selection and use
- Assist in the development of key clinicians to facilitate the skin, wound and ostomy program
- Contribute to discharge planning meetings on units managing patients with wounds and ostomies
- Provide nursing support to the outpatient wound center when client census and/or staffing needs deems appropriate Develop and provide staff education on prevention, ostomy, and wound care skills for the bedside nurses
- Contribute to the needs assessment and competency development related to wound and ostomy care for clinical staff providing direct patient care
- Participate in the hospital multidisciplinary wound care committee or other appropriate committee
- Monitor the appropriate use of pressure redistribution surfaces using criteria approved by the hospital
- Coordinate incidence and prevalence study and participate in risk management/performance improvement activities aimed at reducing the incidence and severity of hospital acquired pressure injuries
- Participate with materials management in the review and selection of all specialty supplies, dressings, and materials for wound and ostomy care to facilitate cost-effective utilization and compliance with vendor contracts
- Participate in the review and revision process for hospital policies and procedures relating to wound and ostomy care
- Performs other duties as required
Required Education, Experience And Credentials
- Certification, Registration, or Licensure: Current R.N. license; current CPR certification for the Healthcare Provider (BLS)
- Min of one (1) year of experience working in wound care or acute care environment
- Wound and Ostomy Certification (WCON/WPCN) preferred or as required by Hospital or State (AAWM or WOCN certifying bodies preferred). If not certified, willingness to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
- Case management and discharge planning experience are preferred

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $38.96 - $59.03 Per Hour
This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications: education, experience, geography as well as operational needs and other considerations permitted by law.
