The RN works with a team of nurses and CNAs to provide care to designated residents in our Short Term Rehabilitation or Long Term Skilled Care units. They are responsible for providing general nursing care in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and physician orders.
- Monitor residents, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Nurse Supervisor or Physicians of resident condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and determines progress of residents.
- Administers specified medications and document accordingly
- Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters and oxygen supplies.
- Performs routine lab work such as urinalysis and accu checks
- Shift to shift report to other nurses, as well as CNAs
- Answer telephone inquiries.
- Takes and transcribes physicians orders, as directed by supervisor.
- Assists with orientation, instruction and supervision of other nursing personnel.
- Evaluates residents needs, condition and care, and assist in developing nursing care plan for individual residents, including rehabilitative and restorative activities, and instruction in self-help.
- Checks resident identification, physicians orders, residents medical and social history prior to administering treatment.
- Requisitions and arranges for diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered by residents' physician from departments within the institution or from outside facilities.
- Sends diet orders to dietary department.
- Periodically reviews resident care plans with supervisor and residents' physician.
- Maintains unit records and performs charting duties.
- Maintains narcotics records; completes required forms and reports.
- Attends and participates in scheduled in-service programs and staff meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality of necessary information.
- Utilizes supplies and equipment properly and without waste.
- Thinks and acts calmly and logically to meet unusual occurrences of the job without being thrown off stride.
- Weekly wound care assessments.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
