Provides comprehensive medical services for members of family, regardless of age or sex within scope of training. Services include: OB/GYN Director directs the clinicians and program of OB/GYN department. Develops and introduces approved standards and guidelines for OB/GYN services and programs. OB/GYN Director ensures quality care for patients. The delivery of prenatal, gynecological, obstetric and educational care at a patient-centered environment. The OB/GYN Director works in a collaborative effort across all departments to remove barriers for accessing healthcare. The OB/GYN Director must incorporate health center policies (including quality assurance) into their clinical practice to provide quality care commensurate with training and licensure. The OB/GYN Director is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer in planning, developing, budgeting, policies, directing, implementing and monitoring all OB/GYN services and provides medical care to a panel of patients. The mission of SJWCFC is to provide medical, dental and mental health services to underserved and uninsured persons in South Los Angeles. Provider may be staffed at various locations depending upon the need of the organization. Medical providers work some evenings and Saturdays as scheduled within their typical clinical time. No hospital call or rounds. Available to travel to clinics upon short notice upon urgent situations to serve our patients. Supervision of MD, PA, NP or CNM within OB/GYN Dept. is a must. May be asked to provide training to resident physicians, medical students or physician extender students. Provide consultancy services and meet the needs and demands of Ob/GYN related services from other clinicians at the organization. Provide on-board training and hands on training of certain Gynecological procedures.
Providers work some evenings and at least two Saturdays a month as scheduled (unless designated on-call provider at a clinic).

Education:
Medical Degree (MD, DO)
OB/GYN Residency training
Experience:
Within scope of training
Familiar with Electronic Health Records (EHR); eClinical Works preferred
Basic computer skills

Duties and Responsibilities:
Personal-Team-Organization
Reviews patient file/record, including allergies, problems, medications and immunization status.
Elicits and records information about patient's medical history.
Examines patients for symptoms or physical information.
Perform routine office based obstetric and gynecological procedures including Pap smears, Intra Uterine device placements, Nexplanon injections, Fetal heart rate monitoring, OB/GYN ultrasound procedures, colposcopy and endometrial biopsies, etc. Must be willing to learn if not familiar with any of these procedures.
Determine and implement appropriate courses of treatment guidelines as per ACOG or other regulatory guidelines.
Provide appropriate care and treatment during prenatal and postnatal periods in a timely fashion.
Orders or executes various tests, analyses and diagnostic images/procedures to provide information on patient's condition.
Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnoses condition of patient.
Determines and prescribes medication, dosage and schedule given the patient's condition and allergies and discusses any possible side effects to medication or immunization with patient.
Prescribes vaccinations to immunize patient from communicable diseases.
Promotes health by advising patients about diet, physical activity, hygiene and methods for prevention of disease.
Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient's well-being.
Documents the patient's visit including medical history, physical exam, diagnoses and plan of action.
Follows up with patient regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases.
Conducts physical examinations and provides documentation needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.
Completes patient charts in a timely fashion, preferably within five business days of a given encounter
Completes patient forms in a timely fashion, ideally within less than five business days
Completes referral requests (i.e. eConsult) in a timely fashion
Appropriately addresses telephone encounters in a timely fashion, preferably within 48 business hours
Responds to patient refill requests (and prior authorizations) in a timely fashion, ideally within less than three business days
Actively participates in quality improvement activities to improve the scores for HEDIS, UDS and other entity quality metrics, including timely access to prenatal care, post-partum care, pap smear rate, mammogram rate, immunization rates etc.
Completes other specialty tasks within a timely fashion, as decided by specialty team policies and procedures
Attends specialty case management meetings as applicable
Administers Family Planning services in compliance with Title X Rules and Regulations/Protocols.
Attends seminars and in-services, if instructed by the CMO or Regional Medical Director.
Consults with other providers as needed for complex patients and responds to the consult requests from other providers
Provides clinical supervision and consultation to mid-level practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, RNs, LVNs, Health Educators and case managers as needed for complex patients
Commitment to mission of St. John's with clinic involvement and engaging in healthcare community events.
Provider goals: sees minimum of twenty-one to twenty-five patients per day subject to clinic goals.
Providers schedule: works alternate Saturdays to provide coverage and subject to clinic goals and some evenings
Apply safety principles as identified by established policy;
Make oneself available to travel to other sites within Organization to cover another provider's absence, often with very little advance notice;
Ensure compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management. Ensure compliance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations;
Exhibit a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals;
Adjust to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality;
Collect, interpret, and/or analyze diagnostic data;
Attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events as needed;
As an exempt position, evening and/or weekend hours may be required to ensure the fulfillment of all duties and responsibilities; and
Other duties may be assigned or may be modified as business needs dictate.
Medical Director of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Comply with the responsibilities and requirements outlined in the Scope of Work presented
Collaborate with Medical Leadership, CPSP manager and Clinic Manager to build and sustain a high-performing OB/Gyn health care delivery team;
Facilitate performance improvement activities to optimize patient care;
Collaborate with Medical Leadership, and Clinic Manager to troubleshoot health care delivery issues;
Build and support provider morale and for entire clinic team;
Collaborate with orientation team to ensure orientation and support for new providers and per diems;
Facilitate understanding among all site providers of regulatory and contractual requirements, and organizational policies and procedures, as well as compliance with same;
Provide guidance and input to CMO, Medical Leadership Team (MLT) and Senior Management regarding provider morale, systems and other factors affecting clinic operations and health care delivery, and opportunities for improvement;
Participate in Strategic Planning as appropriate;
Understand and coordinate the design, training, implementation, and monitoring of compliance with new initiatives, programs and requirements (e.g., new training, new policies and procedures, etc.);
Receive, review and sign laboratory and other patient test results that cannot be routed to a current provider in a timely manner;
Manage referrals, prescription inquiries, laboratory and other patient test results ordered by per diem or vacationing providers;
Conduct or participate in the conduct of performance reviews as directed by Medical Leadership and Human Resources;
Conduct chart reviews (MDs), identify and report provider performance issues or other concerns to Medical Leadership;
Collaborate with Clinic Manager and Medical Leadership to facilitate Electronic Health Records (EHR) desktop close-out for providers who have separated from the organization;
Participate in the organization's Quality Improvement Committee, and develop/implement quality improvement projects and initiative for OB/GYN services
Provides oversite for scheduling coverage for all OB/GYN services.
Responsible to maintain and monitor the network coverage of providers.
Coordinate CME and clinical training programs.
