The Software organization develops software applications, including integration and test on missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control and other complex systems. Our precision software and firmware integrate operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control processing features to complete the mission. The Senior Principal Software Engineer in the Advanced Technology department of the Software Engineering Directorate will serve as the Product Owner (PO) for a team developing tactical mission flight software capabilities for major Advanced Technology missile programs including hypersonics. This individual needs to be a proven real-time Embedded Software Development Subject Matter Expert with a recent track record of successfully designing and developing flight software and providing technical leadership.
The Mission Software PO is responsible for managing all cost, schedule, planning, and execution for Software Engineering activities for the Mission Software Product team. These activities include but are not limited to Estimate at Completion Reviews (EACs), agile backlog development, staffing projections, and biweekly metrics. In addition, the PO will serve as a Software Engineering interface to the customer community, program management, and other stakeholders. The PO is responsible for leading the team to execute all stages of software development and testing for software builds to meet software delivery milestones on a fast-paced schedule.
This position is within the Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do - OBTAIN PROGRAM ACCESS
- Apply expertise in software development for embedded multi-processor systems.
- Lead the execution of all assigned SW work scope, determine the allocation of personnel within the team to perform that work, and review and approve any SW contract deliverables before delivery to the program stakeholders.
- Work within agile framework to lead development of software backlogs, plans, and metrics.
- Support continuous improvement of people, processes, and tools.
- Represent interests of the Software Engineering Directorate. Extensive interaction with the Chief Product Owner, Product Owners, Software Architect, and Chief Engineers.
- Responsible for developing a team capable of delivering embedded real-time tactical flight software with firmware interfaces.
- Responsible for interface and coordination with Chief Product Owner for Software Engineering and software development, software integration, software test planning, coordination, execution, and reporting activities.
- Identification, establishment and implementation of best practices and lessons learned.
- Represent the Raytheon Software Engineering team to the customer during regular programmatic and technical meetings.
- Utilize agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration.
- Work onsite at the Tucson airport location.
- Ability to obtain program access required .
Qualifications You Must Have - Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 10+ years of engineering experience in embedded software engineering.
- Experience developing, integrating, testing, or verifying real-time embedded C++ software with a Real Time Operating System (RTOS) (e.g., Wind River VxWorks, Green Hills Integrity, etc.)
- Experience supporting missile system software design, requirements, development, integration, or test
- Experience leading a software team in a technical capacity including planning and execution.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer - Experience working on a development program using agile/scrum and devOps or test automation including an all-digital simulation for testing.
- Embedded mission software integration for a missile
- Experience designing and architecting real-time embedded software on multi-core systems including requirements development and verification.
- Experience using scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Perl, etc.).
- Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Certified or Cost Account Manager (CAM) experience.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
