POSITION SUMMARY:
Supervise all payroll staff in the pastoral center and act as internal supporting payroll resource for all other payroll staff across the diocese (for policy and procedure questions).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Review and supervise the payroll processing of the Central Administration, Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools, and Parish Accounting Services (PAS) for accuracy and timeliness and direct payroll staff on how to correct errors or address issues.
- Provide training for payroll staff across the diocese and assist them with payroll processing, as needed.
- Administer accounts for employee self- service (online access to pay stubs and W-2’s).
- Ensure vacation and sick balances are sent out to schools/department heads monthly.
- Adhere to payroll policies and procedures and comply with relevant laws.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employees’ payroll records.
- Process year-end adjustments such as pension plan and dependent care assistance program before finalizing the final payroll of the calendar year to reflect in employee W-2s.
- Assist staff in the processing responsibilities for Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools as needed:
-Maintain payroll processing system and accurate payroll records including required payroll garnishments and insurance deductions etc.
-Ensure insurance schedules are reconciled and reports are validated before transmitting payroll and afterwards on a bi-weekly and monthly basis.
-Receive and coordinate requests for leave and other absences with special calculations for school staff.
-Review seasonal stipend payments to school employees and school Auxiliary organizations.
-Review and approve calculation for annual bonuses according to policy for eligible employees.
-Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in timesheets and other payroll records.
-Review payroll reports on a bi-weekly basis.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Five Years’ experience in payroll processing, preferably with Paylocity
- Previous history of supervising a team with at least two individuals
- Strong verbal, written and analytical skills
- Proficiency with computers, word processing, spreadsheet software, accounting software and Windows
