Spencer Ogden is looking for a Lead Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician to assist one of our leading chemical manufacturing clients based out of the Southern Baton Rouge area. This role will be focused on working with process engineers to develop construction schedules and design data for instrumentation and electrical equipment required for new capital projects. This role involves leading a team of 3-5 I&E Technicians, coordinating activities with process/project engineers and I&E designers, and directing the start-up of instrumentation and electrical equipment for chemical processes. The Lead I&E Technician will also be responsible for maintaining all design, purchase, and calibration documentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with Project/Process Engineers to size and specify instrumentation for chemical processes (e.g., flow meters, RTDs, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, load cells).
- Develop and maintain DCS and PLC control logic for chemical processes in conjunction with Project/Process Engineers.
- Commission instrumentation and control system equipment.
- Communicate with plant operations for control system optimization and process improvement.
- Oversee the start-up of instrumentation and electrical equipment for chemical processes.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on existing instrumentation, control systems, networks, and electrical equipment as needed.
- Maintain documentation and calibration records for instrumentation and control systems.
- Consider potential safety and environmental issues related to projects throughout startup, shutdown, and continuous operations.
- Provide oversight for electrical construction.
- Handle complex projects, issues, and problems, referring the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Perform work with minimal supervision.
- Review and approve weekly time entries by employees.
- Provide management and performance feedback using performance management tools.
- Mentor less experienced employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience in a technical role within the process industry.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Solid working knowledge of chemical control systems.
- Experience with specifying instrumentation for processes handling flammable liquids, combustible liquids, or solids.
- Experience with Yokogawa DCS 3000 control system preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with Aveva and/or Smartplant Intools is a plus but not required.
- Experience with SAP is a plus but not required.
