The division of pediatric endocrinology at East Tennessee State University is expanding to add a third pediatric endocrinologist to an enthusiastic team supported by advanced practitioners, diabetes educators, pediatric endocrine nurses and dietician. Since opening in 2015, the clinic has thrived by investing in the community to provide excellent clinical care, teach the next generation of providers, engage in meaningful research and quality improvement, and advocate for our patients.The 0.7 clinical FTE is via partnership with the Ballad Health, the regions health system encompassing 21 hospitals, of which Niswonger Childrens Hospital is the flagship pediatric institution for a catchment area of over 1 million people. We are the referral location for children requiring pediatric endocrine care in Northeast TN, Southwest VA, and portions of KY and WV. All pediatric endocrine care is focused at this one location (no satellite clinic travel). Inpatient endocrinology is a consult-only service supported by a strong intensivist and hospitalist team and pediatric residents.Academic duties (0.3 FTE) include teaching ETSU medical students and pediatric residents, pursuing independent and collaborative research interests, with support to participate and present at regional and national conferences as well as patient advocacy.With minimal commute times, reasonable cost of living, strong schools, beautiful opportunities outdoors, and small-town feel, finding a comfortable work-life balance is not difficult and encouraged.
