Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment of L3Harris Technologies, responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Systems Development and Verification discipline at our Stennis Space Center, Mississippi location.
This Systems Engineering Management role provides leadership support and is accountable for the technical engineering management of our liquid propulsion engine programs that require development, verification, qualification and acceptance. This position requires knowledge and experience with space propulsion rocket engines used in launch vehicle applications.
Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership and direct technical support of Aerojet Rocketdyne products and services to achieve the design, development and production of systems or hardware for the Company’s development and operational / production programs within budgetary and schedule constraints. These programs include propulsion systems, such as the RS-25, for use on current and future launch vehicles. Additional duties include development, verification and qualification planning, requirements verification, inspection, testing and execution; systems integration; test equipment & facility coordination; support of product assembly; anomaly investigations; and test readiness review process and test risk assessment.
- Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing and performance, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, performance evaluations, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product.
- Be responsible for and direct the development and implementation of Systems Engineering methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between Systems Development &Verification (SD&V) and other engineering disciplines and functional organizations.
- Provide leadership for the design, development and implementation of product and process improvement and affordability activities. Routine reporting and communication with Systems Engineering Analysis, Verification and Product Support (SEAV&PS) Senior Manager and peer engineering managers is also expected.
- Responsible for department financial performance and mitigation to ensure department reporting metrics are in-line with established goals and plans.
- Serve as the Engineering organization liason to the AR SSC Site. This may include EH&S coordination, site wide continuous improvement activities, and site managerial boards and committees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience in liquid rocket engine development, systems integration, engine assembly, requirements verification, engine system and subsystem testing. Strong technical and team-working skills required.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on programs assigned.
- Previous supervisory and/or IPT leadership experience a plus.
- Knowledge of test facility and/or engine control systems
- Experience with the RS-25 engine design and/or operation
- Knowledge of cryogenic test facilities
- General familiarity with budget and scheduling processes or tools
