Job description: The Carrier Development Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic carrier relationships, identifying the needs of criteria partners, and building a network of dedicated carriers assigned to hauling awarded freight throughout the United States. The Carrier Development Representative will remain consistently active in driving leads for current and prospective haulers, working alongside the Logistics Managers to match with shipping lanes in effort to increase order volume and maximize profit margins.
PRIMARY ACTIVITIES AS THEY RELATE TO Carrier Development Representative
Maintain and develop relationships with current criteria carriers
- Identify opportunities to expand our partnership with core carriers
- Reduce the number of new carrier onboards by expanding business with current carrier base
- Work alongside Logistics and Sales Leadership to match carriers to prospective and existing business
- Prospect and solicit new carriers that offer various equipment types depending on current and future demand
- Add and update preferred carrier data into profiles within a Transportation Management System and other digital platforms as required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
SECONDARY ACTIVITIES
- Ensure Carrier Development Representative assignments and duties are completed and expedited in a priority sequence
- Be involved in Operations and Sales activities where applicable:
- Pulling and analyzing data for Management or Operations staff upon request
- Filling out Carrier Profile and Lane Data in Excel files for review
- Providing input and sharing insight gained over the course of the specific timeframes
- Relationship building is vital (internal and external)
- Operations knowledge with sales-type approach
- Track record of successfully working in a similar role (2+ years)
- Leadership (able to sell lanes and then sell carriers internally)
- Already has a customer base with clients in CA – looking to expand offerings in the US
- All forms of OTR offered
