Our client, a Global Manufacturing organization, is looking for their new EHS Director.
Reporting directly to the CHRO.
*Must be willing to travel 50% globally
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS ROLE:
The Director, Global Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), is essential in promoting EHS excellence and cultivating a safety-centric organizational culture. This role is responsible for leading a team that develops and maintains effective systems and practices to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations. The Director will spearhead the implementation of the Company’s Global Safety Strategy, collaborating closely with leaders worldwide to enhance all aspects of EHS performance. Additionally, this position serves as the main point of contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the global Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) function, ensuring accountability and responsibility for EHS&S performance and compliance through active involvement and promotion of the Company’s EHS&S Program.
- Achieve compliance objectives and team goals according to the required schedule.
- Provide expert advice and technical guidance for EHS&S programs and projects.
- Serve as the primary individual responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the EHS management system.
- Monitor and assess EHS performance metrics across all sites.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into business processes.
- Lead and inspire a global team of EHS professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to achieve excellence in safety and environmental performance.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance EHS awareness and competencies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to elevate safety and environmental practices.
- Identify and assess EHS risks globally, developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Ensure timely reporting and resolution of incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Work with senior leadership, site managers, and functional heads to promote EHS awareness.
- Review and approve regulatory permits, inspection outcomes, and audit report findings to ensure proper submission, impact, and/or action.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external partners to stay informed about best practices and emerging trends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in EHS leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of global EHS regulations and standards.
- Minimum of 5 years leading global EHS&S functions; experience in Asia and Europe required.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity and experience with EHS Data Management Systems and Lean principles.
- Experience working with all levels of employees, including executive management.
- Ability to synthesize data and deliver it succinctly.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 40% travel required).
- This is an on-site position located in either Atlanta, Georgia, or Fort Wayne, Indiana.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
