Job Description About the role:
You will manage the automation strategy, implementation plan, software development, and systems integration, specializing in the Building Automation System (BAS), control system infrastructure, and critical utilities for the LA site. You will use technical expertise to manage high-visibility projects and resolve complex issues. Provide guidance and direction to Takeda employees and contractors to meet schedule and financial goals while ensuring technical success. Lead scope definition, conceptual design, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, commissioning, and production support. Provide guidance, review, and direction to create functional Life Cycle and other documentation per cGMPs and Takeda Quality Systems standards. You will report to the Associate Director of Automation Engineering.
How you will contribute
- Leads and schedules activities for Critical Systems, such as PLC/HMI-based equipment and BAS (Siemens Desigo) projects, to ensure that all automation engineering actions are completed by assigned due dates.
- Lead the automation scope for large-scale programs and multiple small projects with complex features. Implement projects observing the LA Plant Project Management Methodology guidelines and practices.
- Help accomplish Project Record (PR) ownership, configuration changes, functional tests, Commissioning Plans, and Qualification Protocols.
- Manage and close corrective actions related to the automation system; this includes Corrective Action & Preventative Action (CAPA) that are generated due to user interventions and non-conformances/events.
- Perform financial planning and assists in the analysis to justify project approval.
- Solve automation system and manufacturing equipment issues that result in production delays; coordinates and contacts support groups for assistance.
- This support will include PLC/HMI, BAS (Siemens Desigo), process, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Collaborate with Global / Local Automation technical teams to ensure understanding and fulfill strategic goals.
- Analyze business processes, evaluate/redesign procedures to meet user requirements.
What you bring to Takeda
- Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline required. Computer, Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering Degree Preferred.3+ years of related experience. Some leadership experience preferred for supervisory roles.
- Experience managing automation systems in an FDA regulated manufacturing settings.
- Knowledge of GMPs, FDA guidelines and validation.
- Maintain industry contracts and be involved in industry interest groups.
- Trouble shooting skills.
- 3+ years of experience in process design, controls engineering and process improvement.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical or food industry, Allen Bradley line of product (PLC, VFD, Panel View), Flex I/O, Compact Logix, Factory Talk SE, Panel Views, Wonderware In Touch. Familiar with automation associated with critical systems like RO, WFI Stills, Alcohol still and associated distribution systems, boilers, compressors, multimedia filters, chillers.
- Knowledge of Building automation systems (Siemens Desigo).
Important Considerations
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.
- In general, your work will be a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
- Will work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
- No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment.
- Will work in a cold, wet environment.
- Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends.
- May work in a confined area.
- Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
- Can work in demolition/construction area.
- Will work 100% onsite.

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$84,000.00 - $132,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained , certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
