Position Overview: As the Director of Estimating, you will lead our estimating operations, aiming to build a “best-in-class” department. Your role is crucial in ensuring we secure profitable projects that align with our company’s goals while maintaining strong relationships with trades and clients. Also while managing complex construction projects valued between $1-$20 million within the private institutional and commercial sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of complete and accurate budgets, estimates, bids, and GMPs, from initial sketches to fully developed construction documents.
- Apply your expertise in construction methodology and pricing to provide constructability and value engineering recommendations that deliver client value.
- Identify, develop, and help close new project opportunities, working closely with marketing and business development teams to build our project pipeline and prepare proposals and client presentations.
- Collaborate with the construction operations team to develop project schedules, logistics plans, and ensure seamless project handover to the construction team.
- Mentor, recruit, and hire members of the Estimating team, fostering a cohesive and motivated department.
- Develop and implement estimating processes and procedures that ensure consistency and scalability, and track departmental KPIs.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record in successfully estimating complex construction projects from initiation to completion.
- Strong team-building, quantitative, and communication skills.
- Exceptional time-management and problem-solving abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of construction principles, processes, practices, and pricing.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction estimating.
