System Development Engineer – Permanant – Remote – $120,000 - $140,000

Our client is seeking a System Development Engineer in Remote opportunity.
Role Description
• AWS Environment Management: Experience in designing and managing multi-AZ and multi-region AWS environments, including services like EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and Kubernetes.
• Cloud Security & Network Architecture: Understanding of cloud security, AWS network architecture, and integration of third-party security and monitoring tools like DataDog.
• Cloud Engineering Experience: 3+ years in cloud engineering, with a strong focus on AWS services and infrastructure.
• Modern Cloud Architectures: Experience with modern cloud architectures and the ability to explain their pros and cons for specific problems or implementations.
• Application Development: 2+ years in developing applications using TypeScript, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• API Development: Experience in API development and/or administration.
• Containerization: Proficiency in containerization technologies like ECS and Kubernetes.
• Terraform & CI/CD: Proficiency in Terraform and familiarity with CI/CD tools, especially GitHub Actions.
• Infrastructure Documentation: Ability to document and support scalable, efficient, and operable infrastructure solutions.
• Design, develop, and deliver cloud native solutions using AWS Lambda, S3, MQ, SNS, SQS, and API Gateway
• Design and manage AWS cloud infrastructures with a focus on key services such as Route 53, VPCs, Direct Link, WAFs, firewalls, network and application load balancers, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability across multiple availability zones and regions.
• Utilize Terraform for IaC to automate and manage infrastructure provisioning, coupled with GitHub Actions for seamless CI/CD pipeline integration, facilitating automated builds and deployments. Ensure testing and IaC code quality. Manage and improve the DevSecOps platform
• Provide expertise in AWS services including but not limited to EC2, S3, RDS, Aurora, CloudWatch, Lambda, FSx, MQ, SNS, SQS, and Kubernetes for container orchestration, aiming for innovative, cost-effective, and performant cloud solutions.
• Oversee collaborations with third-party providers managing infrastructure operations. Ensure all deliverables are well-documented, supportable, and adhere to operational excellence, including the use of DataDog for application performance monitoring and SIEM.
• Participate in ITSM processes including incident, problem, change, and service management, focusing on maintaining high service reliability and availability through proactive observability and alerting strategies.
• Document infrastructure designs and implementations thoroughly, ensuring they meet business requirements and are built for operability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Stay up to date with emerging trends in cloud technologies, applying them to improve existing solutions to provide customers with better service at an optimal cost.
• Identifies opportunities for improvement in current technology and that of individual systems. Avoids the creation of tech debt, identifies tech debt quickly, and prioritizes the swift remediation of technical debt.
Skills & Requirements
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or 8 years of equivalent work experience in technology architecture, software development, infrastructure engineering, cloud engineering, or similar roles.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and consultative skills for effective relationships and discussing technical concepts with various audiences.
• Programming Languages: Experience with programming languages like TypeScript, Java, Python, SQL, etc., is a plus.
• Collaboration: Experience partnering closely with architects and technology leads.
• Hybrid Model Experience: Experience working in a hybrid on- and off-shore model.
• Problem-Solving & Leadership: Excellent problem-solving, logical thinking, and leadership skills (by influence and example).
• Optimization Skills: Familiarity with optimizing cloud cost, performance, and scalability.
• Strong experience with AWS, particularly Lambda and API Gateway.
• Proficiency in TypeScript for development.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience with containerization on ECS.
• Familiarity with GitOps workflows.
• Understanding of how a Java application runs.
