Position Brief:
The Chatham Group: Advanced Materials and Technologies Recruiting Firm is seeking highly qualified candidates for a Coatings Scientist position with a well-established client in the Greensboro, NC area. This is an individual contributor role that will play a key part in the development and enhancement of new and existing wood coatings products. You will leverage a background in chemistry and materials science to drive innovation breakthroughs in a specialized field. Ideal candidates for this role with have an educational background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or other highly relevant field with 3-7+ years of experience in the broader coatings industry; however, direct experience with wood coatings will be preferable.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate new wood coating products that meet market requirements for performance, environmental compliance, and cost-effectiveness
- Develop and improve upon existing wood coating formulations to enhance their current performance and sustainability
- Conduct rigorous testing and analysis including physical, chemical, and application testing to ensure product quality and effectiveness
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams such as QA/QC, Production Engineering, and Marketing on various projects
- Conduct market research to stay abreast of technological advancement and broader industry trends in the wood coatings sector
- Lead a culture of robust documentation to ensure that accurate record keeping allows for easy patent application and/or regulatory compliance
- Participate in seminars, conferences, or other training sessions in order to develop as a site subject matter expert in wood coatings.
Requirements:
- BS Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or other highly related field
- 3-7+ years of experience in the broader coatings industry with direct experience with wood coatings being preferable
- Strong general foundation of formulation chemistry and organic chemistry
- Ability to work strongly in both an independent manner or fast paced team centric manner
- Strong reporting, technical writing, and record keeping skills.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience level and relocation assistance will be provided to qualified candidates.
