Role Description
This full-time, on-site position is responsible for providing legal advice, conducting legal research, and preparing and prosecuting criminal cases within the tri-island County of Maui. The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney will also be responsible for negotiating plea agreements, working closely with law enforcement agencies, and presenting cases in court. This position is located in Wailuku, HI.
Qualifications
- No experience needed for recent or future law school graduates
- For lateral positions, strong background in prosecuting or defending criminal cases is a plus
- Experience providing legal advice and conducting legal research
- Negotiation skills to achieve successful outcomes in plea agreements
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with law enforcement agencies and the general public
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Experience as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Hawaii is a plus
- Membership in the Hawaii State Bar Association is required
- Recent and future law school graduates may be hired as full-time law clerks while they study for the bar and await their results
