Kelly Engineering is looking for a Contract Product Development Engineer for our client in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you'll be instrumental in developing new and improved aesthetics, quieter operation, and enhanced performance for our latest heavy equipment projects. We're looking for engineers who thrive in a hands-on environment and have a knack for tinkering—whether it's welding in your garage or rebuilding engines on the weekends. Your ability to bring practical, real-world experience to our team will be invaluable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Implement new designs focusing on structural integrity, wear reduction, and durability for machines weighing between 32,000 to 80,000 lbs.
- Hydraulic Systems: Lead the selection and integration of hydraulic components, including motors, gearboxes, filters, and smart cylinders.
- Structural Engineering: Apply your expertise in SolidWorks to design, simulate, and test structural components, ensuring long-lasting, cost-effective solutions.
- Manufacturing Processes: Collaborate with teams utilizing presses, burn tables, laser machining, and heavy equipment assembly to bring your designs to life.
- Problem Solving: Tackle challenges like vibration issues in motors, aiming to extend the life of equipment while reducing costs.
What We're Looking For:
- Mechanical Engineering Background: Experience with heavy-duty equipment and low-volume manufacturing.
- Hands-On Expertise: Whether it's welding, fabrication, or any hands-on hobby, we value your practical experience.
- Structural & Hydraulic Knowledge: Strong understanding of steel design, fastener flexion, vibration, and hydraulic systems.
- Tools & Techniques: Proficiency in SolidWorks, FEA, and a solid grasp of hydraulic and structural principles.
