About the Role:
As the New Product Development Engineer, you will research and develop polymeric materials and blends through systematic experimentation aimed toward developing improved products for the company’s internal and external customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with product managers and manufacturing to identify, research & development projects and priorities to meet the needs of this business unit.
- Plan and conduct projects that will strengthen the company’s technical knowledge of plastic materials, contribute to the development of new products and build the company’s processing and product capabilities.
- Develop new tests and test procedures; assist in the implementation of incorporating those tests into standard quality testing.
- Analyze published data relevant to the product line and verify critical data by in-house testing, characterize competitive samples and utilize advanced statistical tools.
- Generate technical data for customer presentations, establish procedures, and modify processing procedures as needed.
- Produce product samples on the NPD Pilot line.
- Collaborate with outside testing facilities, universities, suppliers and customers.
- Monitor industry trends and new technology, create innovative solutions to shape digital manufacturing business.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor, master’s or PhD degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
- Strong knowledge of polymer materials and manufacturing processes, i.e. polymer extrusion is desirable.
- Self-starter: highly motivated to deliver results and drive continuous improvement.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task; attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively, creatively, and flexibly within interdisciplinary teams, customers and suppliers to deliver exceptional results.
- Strong verbal, written and technical communication skills.
Skills that would be an asset in the role:
- Experience in processing and quality control testing of synthetic materials.
- Lean and Six Sigma certification or experience.
- Knowledge and experience with Industry 4.0 and digital transformation in manufacturing.
- Computer software and programming skills.
