The Applications Scientist is the sales and application person responsible for the Liquid Handling platform-based application solutions within the Midwest. This person will be the technical resource to assist and support the generalist salesperson to win the sale. An application solution combines software, software scripts, hardware, and biology that target a specific application. These application solutions could include instrument components from one or more Business Units and collaboration with third-party instrument and reagent vendors. The person in this position will act as an expert and knowledge source for the Tecan generalist sales team
Responsibilities
- Become a technical expert within the Liquid Handling automation field, providing specific application expertise to gain customer confidence during the pre- and post-sales process.
- Encourage the sales generalists to shift focus from product features to the customer’s application through coaching and continuing education.
- Delivers market input on current “hot applications” including trends seen by customers
- Responsible for all aspects of the applications sale, from pre-sale support, including application analysis, solution design and configuration, instrument demonstration (if required), through to installation and providing higher level complexity post-sale support.
- Maintain up-to-date references of local Liquid Handling platform customers to be disseminated to sales generalists as needed.
- Provide application support and training for members of the service organization.
- Work directly with Liquid Handling applications and product management to ensure excellent flow of information from both the field and customers to product management and back again
- Participation in marketing and sales meetings at Tecan sites when appropriate.
- Collect and maintain up-to-date competitive and market information to disseminate to the sales force as well as the marketing and manufacturing sites.
- Involvement in marketing activities, including but not limited to, planning of the shows to attend, deciding which companies to collaborate with, assistance with the Website design material review, review and critique marketing materials, etc.
- Ensure any application data entry into CRM is done accurately and regularly, where appropriate
- Ability to travel (often on short notice)
- Works within guidelines of company travel and expense policies.
- Handles essential tasks as assigned, and responds to change productively.
- Supports the Quality System and Quality Policy by following procedures/work instructions and creating records to meet the requirements of the Quality System Regulation
- Follows all local safety procedures, State and Federal OSHA Regulations, and reports any safety concerns.

Experience
- BSc, in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biology or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant liquid handling and automation experience gained within an academic or industry setting, including writing automation applications in the instrument's native language or software.
- Experience with VBScript, VBA, and .NET applications.
- Experience with a range of molecular biology techniques including NGS sample preparation, NA purification, quantification and normalization, PCR, and qPCR reaction setup.
- Experience with automated instrumentation is required.
- Proven ability to work effectively with customers and internal associates
- Practical knowledge of Windows Applications.
