Job Title: Data Center LAN Engineer/ Network Engineer (ONSITE)
Location: Burbank, CA
Employment Type: Contract to Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $50 - $60/hr
Job Summary:
The Data Center LAN Engineer will ensure the delivery of incident recovery, network changes, and adherence to configuration standards. The role involves applying technical expertise in routing, switching (Cisco IOS and Nexus), and load-balancing to consult with Operations Engineering and/or suppliers. The engineer will review engineering standards and develop tactical plans to ensure that Network Operations, partners, and suppliers meet technical requirements. Additionally, the engineer may assist or oversee major incidents, significant changes, or the introduction of new technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of Network Operations Strategy and support organizational strategies.
- Ensure new network services deliver the required levels of availability and validate the final service design.
- Collaborate with service providers to ensure quality and technical acumen in contracted services.
- Develop and evolve operational procedures, examining and documenting existing processes.
Education and Experience:
- At least 1 professional-level certification from a major technology supplier (e.g., CCNP, F5-CTS LTM) preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive data communications experience in WAN/MAN/LAN/Data Center operational support, configuration, incident resolution, problem management, and project management in a 24x7x365 support environment.
- 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise-scale, complex network environments.
- Working knowledge of load-balancers and other network technologies.
- Experience with major routing protocols (e.g., RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP, RMTP, OSPF).
- 1+ years of experience using data communications test equipment and network management systems (e.g., sniffers, Wireshark, OPNET, NetScout, ReliaTel, NAGIOS, OpenView, SevOne, Smarts, Riverbed CMC, NetBrain, NetCool).
Position Requirements:
- Familiarity with a broad spectrum of hardware and transmission technologies (e.g., cabling, optical fiber, WAN, transport, routing, firewalls, LAN/VLANs switches, SDN).
- Ability to quickly understand complex network infrastructure during major incidents and provide appropriate technical leadership.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical and procedural matters to both technical and non-technical personnel across diverse cultures.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Good understanding of how IT technology supports the enterprise and business segments.
- Ability to communicate and multitask under pressure.
Required Skills:
- 3 years of Nexus/Cisco/IOS experience.
- Minimum 3-year tenure in previous positions.
- Must have F5 load balancing experience.
- Experience with LAN/WAN/Data Center (support, configuration, and incident resolution).
- Experience in enterprise network environments.
- Knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP, RMTP, OSPF).
- Proficiency with data communication/network management systems (e.g., sniffers, Wireshark, OPNET, NetScout).
- Technical leadership and exceptional customer service skills.
- Experience in a 24/7/365 support environment.
- Ability to follow processes and procedures, work within a structured environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with F5 Load Balancer.
- Experience with Juniper.
- Active CCNA and CCNP certifications (not required).
