Job Overview:
My client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Distribution Center Manager to oversee the day-to-day business operations of our distribution center. This position is crucial in ensuring the site meets its financial and operational goals while maintaining high standards in all aspects of the distribution process. The Distribution Center Manager will play a key role in designing and implementing operational plans, managing financial reporting, and ensuring the efficient flow of goods through the warehouse.
Key Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and knowledge of distribution center operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce, with a strong sense of teamwork.
- Able to adhere to strict deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer.
- Occasional climbing of stairs.
Team Leadership:
- Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow to ensure efficient operations.
- Issue written and oral instructions, assign duties, and inspect work for accuracy, neatness, and adherence to policies.
- Standardize procedures to improve the efficiency of subordinate staff and maintain harmony among workers.
- Resolve grievances, adjust errors, and handle complaints effectively to maintain a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of 4-12 subordinate managers, who in turn supervise departmental supervisors and a total workforce of 50-100 employees.
- Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, and addressing complaints.
- Design and implement management and operational procedures to enhance the overall efficiency of the distribution center.
Warehouse and Inventory Management:
- Plan the layout of the warehouse and other storage areas, considering factors such as item turnover, size, weight, and storage requirements.
- Manage the financial reporting of the warehouse, ensuring all budgets and financial targets are met.
- Design, create, and implement production planning processes for the entire warehouse to optimize efficiency and productivity.
- Provide guidance to employees on the proper care, preservation, handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping of stock.
Operational Efficiency:
- Study records and recommend actions for non-usable, slow-moving, and excess stock to improve overall inventory management.
- Review records to ensure accuracy, compliance with established procedures, and adequacy of stock levels.
- Schedule and oversee work for special and periodic inventories, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Trace the history of items to identify and resolve discrepancies between inventory and stock control records.
