Wegner CPAs is partnering with our client in Columbus, WI to fill their Applications Engineer (Mechanical)
Position overview: Provide Engineering support during pre-sale activities and serve as a technical resource in servicing companies products. Quoting OEM components, costing/estimating, quoting retrofits and any other required upfront engineering for sales. Application reviews for sold orders, define equipment specifications, and hand-off projects to engineering, requiring involvement with Engineering, Sales, and Customers. Assist and/or run product testing in companies Test Lab as needed.
Primary duties & responsibilities:
- Prepares and checks sales application drawings including pre-approval drawings and plant layout within proposed contract scope while meeting customer needs.
- Works with Sales, Customer, and Vendors to spec and quote 3rd party equipment (Gearboxes, pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, conveyors, bulk handling systems, etc.) Quote refurbishments for existing equipment. Support sales for used equipment retrofits, etc.
- Performs field surveys when necessary to ensure designed system will fit customer's manufacturing area structure. Coordinates survey findings with drawings/layouts as well as Project Engineers and the various trades.
- Makes suggestions for design modifications to facilitate building obstructions, utilities or product quality issues.
- Understands and applies companies engineering/design standards and practices, quality system procedures and other standards/procedures as appropriate to the applications function.
- Works closely and communicates with Project Engineers, Sales, Estimating, Manufacturing, Installation and Service to coordinate pre-sales design issues and pre-approvals.
- Assisting with machinery manuals prior to equipment shipping.
- Assist with product testing when required in companies testing facility as needed with customers on sight at manufacturing facility. Occasionally testing is required at customers location with company Simulators.
Necessary skills and knowledge:
- Two-year associate degree in Technology Management or Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).
- Proficiency in latest computerized design applications (e.g. AutoCAD, Pro-E, Inventor).
- Minimum three years of experience within manufacturing or applications related CAD work.
- Ability to effectively check all drawings for errors or deviations from standard practice prior to submittal to customers or manufacturing.
