JOB SUMMARY
The Paramedic will work in collaboration with all members of the health care team to provide care to all Emergency Department patients, under the direct supervision of the Emergency Services Physician and general direction of the Emergency Services Director. They will work as part of a team with the Registered Nurse accountable for the patient care assignment. Specific tasks can be delegated by the RN or MD. Provide service across the lifespan (infants, toddlers, preschool, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics). Major responsibilities for this position are: safety and emergency procedures, documentation, patient care tasks and procedures, unit support, communication/customer service, safety, and professional development.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent
Required Skills Licenses: PARAMEDIC
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required within six (6) months of hire. Handle with Care within 90 days of hire
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Good communication and computer skills; ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. Major responsibilities for this position are: safety and emergency procedures, documentation, patient care tasks and procedures, unit support, communication/customer service, safety, and professional development.
Minimum Work Experience Minimum of two years pre-hospital paramedic experience preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Start peripheral I.V. with non-medicated fluid to keep line open.
Insert and maintain peripheral I.V. lock with normal saline or Heparin in normal saline.
Initiate and monitor oxygen including setting of flow rate.
Apply sterile dressings to wounds less than 48 hours old.
Perform basic life support including use of AED.
Use of bag valve mask respiratory ventilation as a part of code team activities.
Apply pulse oximeter and transcutaneous CO2 monitor.
Perform phlebotomy.
Perform capillary blood sugar analysis.
Perform 12-Lead ECG test.
Recognize 12-Lead ECG and Cardiac monitor arrhythmias.
Provide control of bleeding with use of dressings and elevation of body part.
Provide spinal immobilization and apply splints.
Insert oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways.
Perform the technical task of medication administration as determined appropriate for delegation by a licensed RN or LPN clinician.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
