As part of our growing decarbonization services your expertise will engage with design teams and facility operations teams to inform decision making that aligns with clients’ energy efficiency and carbon reduction goals. You will provide consulting on whole building performance from early conceptual design through construction and beyond. You will work collaboratively with the design team and a team of engineers to develop physics-based energy models for large commercial buildings, hospitals, higher-education, k-12 and other non-industrial facilities with the intent to understand their existing energy use and identify ways to help them reduce their energy use and associated carbon footprint. The successful candidate will be responsive to time-sensitive and deadline-driven efforts, flexible in meeting multiple priorities, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce energy models to evaluate building energy use profiles using OpenStudio/ Energy Plus and make informed recommendations.
- Develop and modify scripts and other automation tooling and templates to increase the speed, versatility, and cost-effectiveness of energy modeling.
- Work and learn with our experienced team of over 50 engineers specializing in commercial and industrial energy efficiency.
- Prepare and present targeted presentations to design teams and owners.
- Lead and mentor junior staff.
- Skilled in persistent follow-up to ensure tasks are completed on time.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Open to learning and embracing new challenges.
- Identify and develop new opportunities, collaborate on proposals and develop new business with new and existing clients.
- The position is based out of our Salt Lake City, Utah or Oakland, CA office.
- This is a hybrid position with the expectation of being in the office a minimum two days/week, ideally every day.

What you Need
- Energy Engineering - A solid understanding of engineering principles and advanced analytical skills expected of bachelor-level engineering degree or above. Understanding of major building HVAC equipment/lighting/controls technologies with a specialty in at least one area. Ideally 3-5 years of experience.
- Energy Modeling - Experience with building energy modeling in EnergyPlus, including:
- Familiarity with modeling using the OpenStudio application and SDK.
- Strong preference given to those with experience in coding for OpenStudio/EnergyPlus using Ruby or Python
- Knowledge of standard modeling approaches including ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G Performance Rating Method
- Knowledge and experience working with building energy codes and standards.
- Collaborative and client-focused – A clear communicator who can interact professionally with clients and on-site staff and enhance our reputation as an industry leader.
- Detail oriented and organized, able to manage their own time toward a prescribed goal without micro-management.

Salary range is $100- $150k.
