Our client is a large, privately held firm in the Greater Grand Rapids area. They are an industry leader in manufacturing highly engineered products and looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with a heavy focus on automated and robotic welding to join their team and make an immediate impact! The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for driving operational excellence through process improvements and factory automation and optimization.
This role will: draw upon welding (Automated, MIG/TIG, and Submerged Arc) and lean manufacturing experience to study production flow, complete value stream mapping, identify and implement 5S and continuous improvement opportunities, reduce set-up and change-over times, and improve material pull systems; manage capital spend projects to implement automation and improve processes; analyze equipment downtime to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs; and create or improve manufacturing documentation for operator instructions and standard work.
Desired skills, education, and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing);
- 3+ years of experience, with a focus in high volume manufacturing with welding, in metals manufacturing (machining, welding, heat treating, coating, et cetera);
- high-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment preferred;
- Ability to patiently train and mentor people, develop new leaders, create a culture of safety, collaboration/teamwork, accountability, and trust.
