We are looking for a skilled and experienced mechanical design engineer. The successful candidate will nurture less experienced design engineers and help us make advances in aircraft engine structural component design. This role is vital to the development of our next generation of aircraft engines.
The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.
Successful applicants for this role will be experienced experts in engineering design. They will have amassed achievements over the years notable enough to raise their profile so that they are known widely in their company as a key resource. In broad terms, the role requires coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers, taking on our most complex challenges, and setting standards for excellence in engineering design. Titles for similar roles used at other engineering companies might include Senior Principal Engineer, Deputy Chief Engineer, Principal Engineer or Senior Engineer.
Job Description Essential Responsibilities:
- Be a recognized technical expert in designing mechanical structures and provide consultation to management, design organizations, and suppliers
- Be knowledgeable in the state-of-the-art in aircraft engine technology as well as GE Aerospace's design practices
- Help teams of engineers be ready to review their work via our design review process
- Support teams working on the organization's most pressing problems or innovative technology projects
- Provide technical leadership in design reviews, task force, industrial committees, and design boards
- Identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge in mechanical design is needed or where technical training is needed
- Provide leadership to help integrate new technology smoothly into production
- Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches / programs to make those advancements
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college/university
- At least 8 years of post-Bachelor's experience in structural or mechanical design engineering for turbomachinery applications
- At least 3 years of experience mentoring/leading engineers
Desired Characteristics:

- Experience in mechanical design for aerospace propulsion systems
- 10 or more years of experience in engineering

- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
