The Role:
Suffolk Construction is seeking a Data Scientist for a full-time hybrid (4 days on site) position in Boston, MA. This position will join the growing Advanced Analytics & Data Science team as they embark on the next phase of their evolution striving to stay on the forefront of construction technology. This role is integral to our mission of leveraging data to drive innovation and enhance value within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy machine learning models to support business objectives, with a focus on practical, industry-specific applications.
- Leverage both traditional machine learning techniques and cutting-edge AI technologies, such as large language models (LLMs).
- Translate business stakeholder requirements into deliverable data products, effectively communicating complex technical concepts in a clear and actionable manner.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers to design and implement robust data pipelines that facilitate efficient model training and deployment.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and generate insights that drive strategic business decisions.
- Work independently on complex projects, managing your own workload and setting priorities with limited oversight.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement in data science practices and methodologies.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering an environment that promotes learning and rapid ramp-up to contribute to enterprise-scale data science products.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of industry experience in data science or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and query optimization.
- Advanced skills in Python or R for data analysis and machine learning.
- Expert problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
- Proven history of deploying machine learning models into a production environment.
- Understanding of distributed processing environments like Spark is a plus.
- Familiarity with Posit suite of tools a plus.
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field preferred, but not required.
