DRA covers all major mining centers with offices across Africa and the Middle East, North and South America, and the Asia-Pacific. We are seeking an HSE Superintendent for a major project in Kingman, Arizona.
Summary of Position:
The HSE Superintendent is responsible for efforts in planning, implementing, checking, and improving the Project HSE Program and helping to ensure that all DRA, client, and regulatory safety policies and procedures are being followed on the Project. Essential elements for success for this position include the following: supporting the Project HSE Manager as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), leading investigations, interventions, and investigations, and being an active and effective liaison with customer and contractor HSE personnel on the project. The HSE Superintendent will assume the Project HSE Manager’s responsibilities while the Project HSE Manager is off site on rotation.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the DRA HSE Management System at the project level; implement processes aligned with ISO45001
- Monitor and maintain the Project HSE Plan
- Drive and promote actively caring and behavior management efforts
- Ensure Customer Site HSE Performance Expectations are met
- Audit Contractor HSE Management procedures, systems, work areas, and performance
- Conduct HSE Meetings, Risk Assessments and Trainings and Site HSE Orientations
- Participate in client and contractor meetings on DRA’s behalf
- Provide guidance to Engineers and Discipline Leads for HSE matters of their personnel and work
- Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction areas
- Identify hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; ensure corrective action is taken
- Investigate and report on HSE incidents accidents; including action items to close out investigation
- Prepare and maintain HSE documentation as required by the DRA, Customer, and applicable regulations
- Issue various work permits (i.e., to confined space) as required
- While Project HSE Manager is off-site on rotation, service as DRA HSE Person in Charge and assume Project HSE Manager Responsibilities, including:
- Serve as the primary contact for all Regulatory inspections or visits
- Ensure medical preparedness, assistance and supplies are readily available; lead Project emergency response efforts
- Work closely with customer, contractor, and subcontractor supervision
- Perform additional duties as assigned by VP Health & Safety
- Complete required HSE reporting and paperwork
- Lead and conduct incident investigations, including internal and external reporting, investigation techniques, notifications, and timeline requirements.
- Evaluating the need for services, equipment and material and providing for their request
- Lead and conduct regularly scheduled HSE meetings (i.e., HSE Professionals Meeting, Weekly Progress Meeting, etc.)
Requirements:
- High school Diploma or equivalent, preferred bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field
- Strong risk identification, risk management, and incident investigation skills
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience and a demonstrated ability to successfully plan, execute, and administer a site HSE plan and behavioral management tools in an industrial construction setting; experience managing environmental aspects of construction projects
- Experience in implementation of ISO aligned policies and procedures
- Experience and ability to work closely with multiple contractors and subcontractors
- Experience and ability to lead efforts surrounding site emergency action planning and response
- Experience in a HSE or related field of MSHA regulated construction project(s).
- Working knowledge of Occupational Industrial Hygiene, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental laws and regulations
- Ability to work well in teams
- Motivated and self-directed
- Ability to be flexible, adapt to new situations, and remain calm under pressure
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements/Conditions:
- While performing duties of this job, you may be required to stand, sit, alternate between sitting and standing, push/pull as necessary, reach overhead or below shoulder level, kneel, squat, stoop, crawl, and work at heights utilizing proper fall protection.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ramps, stairs, and ladders, work on elevated platforms, walk on rough, uneven surfaces, walk on inclined surfaces, and work in confined spaces.
- Occasionally you may be required to lift objects (25 pounds or more) during the workday.
- Must be able to enter a manlift with the boom scoping in and out while changing elevations and maintain balance while manlift is moving.
- Must be able to climb on and go into equipment during inspections.
- Must be able to drive and operate industrial motorized vehicles.
- Personal protective equipment may be required when performing work on-site, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves, and any other PPE as required.
- Work is performed on an active mining construction site with various associated risks.
- Will be required to work 10 hours a day on a rotating work shift (currently 3 weeks on, one week off) with the possibility of weekend work.
