Job Title: Data Center Onsite Engineer
Location: Columbus, OH (100% onsite)
Duration: 3-month pilot, expected to be extended 1 year after
Job Description
- This resource will work on state-of-the-art data center equipment helping to test, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize next-generation HPC gear. This role will support solutions for level 1 and level 2 technical issues.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum of 5 years on-prem large-scale data center experience supporting the data center equipment and/or infrastructure (Power, Space, Cooling, Equipment)
- Ability to debug server hardware; Server/desktop build – have experience in building servers from scratch and/or desktop systems
- Data Center – rack and stack – break-fix on the system – knowledge of system parts and being able to troubleshoot. Previous experience soldering, fixing, and testing DC components
- Cabling – be able to run network cables in a data center
- Lab support experience – has supported Hardware labs – has experience with board-level debug – used oscilloscopes – comfortable putting together system boards on a benchtop.
- Inventory experience
- Ability to create solutions to previously unexperienced problems
- Strong attention to detail, independent and out of box thinking
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Added bonus:
- Liquid cooling experience – with systems preferred
- Hardware prototype support / debug experience
Example of Level 1 tasks:
- All physical install
- Expert-level cable management
- Power cabling
- Operate within a ticketing-based environment
- Provider level 1 customer support
- Create/provide detailed documentation
Example of Level 2 tasks:
- Configuration of servers and switches
- Patch management
- Advanced testing and troubleshooting
- Server/board replacement
- Scripting boot commands, automation commands, setting up server/OS/BIOS and updating chipset drivers.
- Advanced cabling topology
- Set up high-speed interconnects and buses (PCIe, CXL, USB-C)
- Intermediate-level board reworks
- Incident management
