JOB DESCRIPTION:
Davron Technologies, Inc. (DTI) is looking for a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a salary position that reports to the Engineering Manager and is located in Chattanooga, TN. The Design Engineer is responsible for designing custom machinery, including but not limited to industrial ovens, automation, and material handling. DTI is a family owned and operated small business with around 50 employees, working with customers around the globe. The applicant needs to have the ability to work with various departments in a fast paced environment.

DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES:
- Design and develop industrial ovens, thermal processing equipment, and automation from initial concept to final design using Autodesk Inventor CAD software.
- Analyze and implement project mechanical specifications / requirements to design appropriate equipment for the application.
- Complete calculations for heat transfer, stress, and sizing requirements.
- Develop and revise 3D models (including parts and complex assemblies).
- Generate detailed 2D drawings for parts to be processed in house on laser, waterjet, and plasma cutting machines as well as CNC press breaks.
- Generate detailed 2D drawings for the manufacturing of large complex assemblies.
- Communicate with customers through the equipment design process.
- Create and maintain complex Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Collaborate with various departments to address and resolve manufacturing, design, and quality issues, and to ensure the continuous improvement of processes and methods.
- Follow designed equipment through the manufacturing process, ensuring equipment is operational to customer’s standards.
- Test and troubleshoot physical equipment once manufacturing is complete on the shop floor.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering Discipline
- At least 3 years experience in mechanical design
- Strong mechanical aptitude gained through work experience or hobbies
- Knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes including fabrication, welding, and machine assembly
- Experience using some type of CAD software to design mechanical components
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D design software
- Knowledge of thermal process and automation system design
- Ability to work in a custom OEM environment where limited standardizations exist
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Strong attention to detail
- The majority of work performed in this role will take place in an office environment, with some tasks needing to be completed in a manufacturing environment
- Occasional travel to customer sites is possible
