We are currently seeking a Steering Wheel Application Engineer for our Auburn Hills (Regional), Michigan facility.
Summary:
Application Engineer for new model and current production programs to ensure technical and project objectives are delivered on time, with quality, and ensuring Customer satisfaction.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Engineer Steering Wheel components and full Steering Wheel assembly integration
- Manage preparation, audit evidence, and present Engineering deliverables throughout the Joyson Safety Design Review process
- Prepare analytical reports relative to the status of design progress relative to project milestones
- Act as the technical lead for specific Customer Steering Wheel applications
- Construct, maintain, coordinate, and communicate design related documents
- Through mentoring, learn the Joyson Safety Systems engineering, procurement, production, and launch process in enough depth to ensure you can critically and effectively support the project team
- Have the ability to learn assemblies, sequences, and associated constraints to accurately describe, manage, and resolve issues through tangible action plans
- Work with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality to ensure robust designs are released
- Develop and manage a clearly articulated Engineering Open Issues list, support project meetings, and drive issues to closure on time to a plan
- Build customer relationships with active participation in Customer Open Issues meetings and meeting specification requirements
- In addition to new model launches, manage production applications with change management tools and techniques
- Manage preparation of prototype and pre-production build events with a cross functional support team
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, Mechanical Engineering preferred
- 5+ years of Automotive experience is preferred
- Must be comfortable working with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
- Must be familiar with CAD systems/concepts
- Comfortable presenting and managing issues internally and externally
Preferred Skills
- Experience performing stackup analysis
- Understanding of how to read and check Engineering prints and GD&T concepts
- Fundamental understanding of the Engineering process – design, sourcing, tooling, quality qualification, validation, and launch
- DFMEA development and coordination into the PFMEA
- Design exposure will include die casting, plastics, harnesses, foam, and leather
- Change management skill set to ensure running production changes are coordinated with the project team with a result of limiting supply chain and customer risk
- Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work and communicate well with others in a team environment including customers and supplier partners
- Must be diplomatically persuasive and professionally assertive when required to make sound Engineering decisions
- Desire to grow through mentorship and develop skillsets to eventually take lead Engineering responsibility for a project
- Highly skilled at taking large quantities of information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner
- Must be willing to travel 5%-10% domestically and internationally for internal, customer, and project related visits
