What you’ll do:
The Systems/Network Engineer is part of the Managed Services team responsible for supporting multiple clients and handling inbound and escalated inquiries. The ideal candidate is a dedicated, relentless problem solver who applies logic and an instinctive approach to resolving technical issues. At IT Solutions, most of our clients rely on us as their sole technological resource. This person should enjoy learning new technologies on the fly while solving diverse technical challenges. The candidate should understand the value of best practices and have the foresight to thoroughly consider all potential outcomes before making impactful changes. The ability to manage the stress of client-down situations is an absolute must, and it is paramount to always provide excellent customer service.
You’ll be responsible for configuring, deploying, and administering IT systems, applications, and infrastructure. Although you will specialize and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on one or more platforms, you must also be a skilled generalist who can build and support a broad range of IT services and solutions.
Your day-to-day activities:
- Support managed services team by leading or contributing to the design, configuration, deployment, and integration of new and existing IT systems
- Provide superior service to customers and clients with limited supervision consistently.
- Provides remote hardware/software support, documentation, support logs and other related information throughout triage process.
- Act as internal escalation point for other Technicians to engage for technical assistance or process guidance; and able to provide guidance to teammates on operational processes, troubleshooting or customer service.
- Uses monitoring tools to investigate potential issues or respond to monitoring events, this can include but not be limited to Kaseya VSA, SOC, ADR, GRC Solutions, etc.
- Assists in monitoring and maintaining network hardware and software; analyzes and troubleshoots the logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems and can perform all levels of routing incident analysis.
- Interact and work directly with multiple advanced technician groups and vendors to escalate technical issues, provide client updates, and drive incidents to resolution often collaborating between more than one group at a time.
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on one or more assigned platforms, systems, or deployment methods
- As a subject matter expert, lead the scoping, architectural design, configuration, and deployment of those systems, serve as the top escalation point for relevant support issue
- As a generalist, support our IT Services team as an escalation point for Tier 2/3 support issues
- Develop standard operating procedures, knowledge base articles, and customer-facing documentation
- Contribute to presales efforts including developing statements of work
- Design, deploy, and manage client network infrastructure, including Azure and Windows servers, VMs, network controllers, managed switches, APs, firewalls, and other network devices.
- Support and troubleshoot escalated issues from on-site support technicians, including complex desktop support problems.
- Manage and configure network equipment from various manufacturers, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Resolve high-impact issues within tight timeframes, including working late hours if necessary to meet client needs.
- Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, adapting your approach based on their level of technical knowledge.
- Produce detailed service reports regularly and communicate updates or changes internally and to the clients.
- Participates in on-call rotations
Who are you:
You’re an IT systems administrator with experience building and supporting a broad range of IT systems, including servers and workstations, applications, and networking. You’re comfortable troubleshooting most aspects of IT in the modern workplace. You enjoy working with new systems and software and can quickly come up to speed on a new piece of technology and understand how it works and interacts with other aspects of IT infrastructure. Although you’re an IT generalist, you like to dig in and develop mastery of a system or platform. You’re a team player and co-workers respect you for your technical acumen and willingness to lend a hand.
What you need have:
- U.S. citizenship
- 5+ years of progressive experience supporting IT in a corporate environment, including 3+ years of experience administering IT systems
- Contemporary knowledge of cloud architecture and security best practices
- Strong general knowledge of IT systems, including servers, virtualization (Hyper-V), Windows domain services (Azure Active Directory, Group Policy), Windows 10/11, endpoint management, and desktop support
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, network design, and troubleshooting (DNS, DHCP, wireless, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN)
- Experience configuring and managing Microsoft cloud services (Office 365, Azure AD, Intune, AWS)
- Strong understanding of security fundamentals (least privilege, RBAC, audit logging, endpoint security, change management)
- Basic knowledge of Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS)
- Proficiency with PowerShell, scripting, and automation techniques
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Excellent organization, communication, problem-solving, and active listening skills
- Experience managing multiple, simultaneous customer projects
- Knowledge and passion for cloud-first architecture, including experience building and deploying systems in Azure
- Familiarity with version control systems, DevOps tools and concepts, and infrastructure-as-code
- 3 years in a helpdesk role, triaging reported issues and incidents by customers.
- Experience managing or troubleshooting all Windows desktop and Windows Server (2012-Current) versions.
- Experience managing or troubleshooting with Office 365 Exchange online and Microsoft Exchange 2013-Current.
- Experience supporting virtual desktop environments: Multi-Server Remote Desktop Server farm w/ Secure Gateway is preferred
- Experience administering and supporting MFA and security endpoint protection applications such as Duo, DNS filter and Crowdstrike
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong technical background in IT infrastructure, networking, cloud services, and security.
- Excellent knowledge of IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Relevant vendor certifications are a plus.
- Exposure to compliance requirements for the U.S. Defense Industrial Base (i.e., CMMC, DFARS, NIST SP 800-171) or other industry compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, CIS Controls)
- Experience with a ticketing system, such as Kaseya BMS
- Experience with any of the following firewalls and remote access VPNs: Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, WatchGuard.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft) such as Microsoft Azure, CCNP networking, or related
- 5-7+ years’ work experience as a Network Administrator installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, data center and security technologies.
