Field Service Technician
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing on-site installation, maintenance, and repair services for capital equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with complex machinery and systems, coupled with strong problem-solving skills. This role involves significant travel, with up to 40% of the time spent at customer locations, ensuring that equipment is functioning optimally and addressing any technical issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Commissioning:
- Install and commission capital equipment at customer sites, ensuring it operates according to specifications.
- Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and tailor the installation process to meet their needs.
- Conduct functional tests and calibrations to verify proper equipment performance.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on capital equipment to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of machinery.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, providing effective solutions to repair or replace faulty components.
- Maintain detailed service records, including work performed, parts used, and any recommendations for future service.
- Customer Support and Training:
- Provide technical support to customers, addressing their concerns and answering questions about equipment operation and maintenance.
- Train customer personnel on the proper use and maintenance of the equipment, ensuring they are fully equipped to handle day-to-day operations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers during on-site visits, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Technical Documentation:
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including service manuals, installation guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide feedback to engineering and product development teams regarding equipment performance and customer needs.
- Travel and Scheduling:
- Plan and coordinate travel to customer sites, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery.
- Manage travel schedules to balance on-site service needs with minimal disruption to customers.
- Prepare and submit travel and service reports in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. A bachelor’s degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience as a field service technician, particularly with capital equipment.
- Strong background in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex machinery.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation systems is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach to technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Proficiency with service management software and tools.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, including overnight stays, as required.
