Summary
The Power Generation Controls Specialist is responsible for but not limited to programming Power Generation Systems, supporting Applications and sales for new units, and providing commissioning and operational support services to customers supplied power generation packages and advanced maintenance functions, procedures, activities, and responsibilities associated with working on power generation systems.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
• Review and/or generate SOW (Statement of Work) created for the project and, as necessary review Turn-in data created by the Applications group including customer specification.
• Assist the Internal Kick Off Meeting and Customer Kick Off meeting.
• Provide Squad Check for project P&IDs considering SOW and Turn-in data.
• Support Control Designer in the development of wiring diagrams for Control Panel and/or Junction Boxes as per project proposal, customer specification and industry standards.
• Review or Approve project wiring diagrams for Control Panels and/or Junction Boxes working with Control Designer and Project Engineer to meet project documentation delivery commitments.
• Release project Bill of Material (BOM) and Control Panel or Junction Box to manufacturer and support fabrication questions/comments.
• Support Project Engineer on Change Order costing and scope.
• Develop & adjust ComAp, PAC/PLC/HMI, DIA.NE, relay & protective device programs as required.
• Perform emergency service, preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and offer operations instruction for industrial engine driven generators and associated controls systems.
• Commission and service designed and fabricated power generation systems; coordinate all related on-site commissioning activities.
• Provide support and assistance for the installation of new and existing generator control system panels and associated equipment, including shop testing.
• Provide telephone and onsite support to customers and field technicians as required.
• Assist with testing new power generation packages controls system and programming logic at the Houston manufacturing facility before shipment to customer site.
• Program, test, and trouble shoot both generators set and synchronizing controls system.
• Program, test, and connect transfer switches.
• Set up load banks as required including the programs and parameters.
• Test, measure, and verify electrical component operations, including energized components and electrical fields.
• Ensure all technical information is correct and passed to the customer including drawings, manuals, and shutdown keys.
• Contribute in proprietary tools and software development for Automation solutions.
• Network and develop relationships with customers to further the brand reputation and promise.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Instrumentation discipline prefer but not required, minimum of 5 years’ experience in commissioning of Power Generation and/or Medium Voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of various electrical components including MCCs, VFD’s, electrical switchgear and motors.
- Knowledge in NEC code is required.
- Travel may be required, up to 35%.
- Willingness to spend one to four week(s) at a time in the field supporting customers.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability and willingness to drive long distances.
- Working knowledge of low voltage and high voltage electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of A/C and D/C systems and equipment. Electrical trouble shooting skills.
- Thorough understanding and ability to read and interpret electrical single line drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams and electrical and controls schematics.
- Knowledge and experience with PLCs and HMIs.
- Knowledge and experience with SEL and NGR relays.
- Knowledge and experience with ComAP, Woodwards generator controllers considered an asset.
- Experience with Jenbacher engine, generator DIA.NE control panels, Waukesha ESMs, CAT ADEM/EMCP, and Cummins PowerCommand considered an asset.

Physical Requirements
• Fast‐paced general office environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
• May be exposed to confidential information.
• Travel will be required; willing to work locally and throughout US, some occasional international travel.
• The position is primarily office based with shop and field work also expected.
