Overview:
Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer in support of our federal government customer. The Jr Systems Engineer develops and executes adaptable technology plans that drive achievement of business results. Broad base of experience required including technology strategy development, SAN administration, data center operations, database management. This role requires a current DOE Q or DOD/DOJ TS clearance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as Systems team member - support unclassified & classified IT systems, may include project planning, design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. military to integrate, troubleshoot, and document global enterprise IT systems.
- Provide Tier II and Tier III support services to maintain, manage, upgrade, and optimize infrastructure hardware and software.
- Responsible for provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of virtual and physical servers in data centers.
- Support O&M of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Windows desktop imaging and deployment, and virtualization technologies including servers, virtual desktops, applications, storage, and network from VMware, Citrix.
- Support implementation of O365 and Microsoft Azure and migration from legacy environment
- Support wide variety of end user applications and assist application support teams in implementation and troubleshooting activities.
- Perform security STIG implementation on servers, Active Directory User / Group Management
- Perform Group Policy Management, Application Migration & Updates, OS Updates
- Conduct account audits, access rights audits, and activity audits.
- Collaborate with the other Server, SAN, Network, and Application teams, determine the presence of a problem, identify possible solutions, select the most appropriate solution, and implement that solution in a timely manner in accordance with Change Control Process.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, system hardware, installation, firmware patching, and VMware software patching.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required per contract.
- 3+ years relevant experience in IT Operations environment
- 2+ years of experience directing system-level design and configuration of products including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications.
- 3+ years of VMware ESXi/vSphere/ vCenter experience. VDI Instant Clone management experience preferred.
- 2+ years supporting classified systems.
- An in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server, Exchange, and Desktop Environments (Windows 10, Windows Server 2012/2016).
- Expertise with Compliance Management through Group Policy
- Basic experience utilizing VBScript and/or PowerShell to automate systems management, deployment, and implementation functions.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp, XenMobile, NetScaler, etc.
- Experience with blade and standalone servers from Dell, HP, Cisco, etc.
- VDI profile management solutions
- Proficiency with systems protocols such as TCP/IP, AD, DHCP, DNS, DFS, 2FA, Group Policy, ADFS, Azure AD and ADFS, etc.
- Experience Administering Active Directory Users/Groups, Group Policy, File Share Permissions, NTFS Permissions
- Experience Administering MS SQL/Oracle Servers a plus.
- Experience with Security Compliance and Tenable Security Center scan reports.
- Experience with Monthly patching cycles. SCCM/LAN Desk experience preferred
- Experience with performance monitoring tools like WhatsUp Gold and SolarWinds
- Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure and SaaS/PaaS (Azure, O365, ServiceNow)
- Thorough knowledge of IP networking, Switches, Routers
Desired:
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting virtual infrastructures: VMware vSphere, vCenter, Horizon View, vRealize Operations, NSX, vSAN, vCloud, etc.
- Experience managing and operating VMware Horizon and VMware ESXi 5.x, 6.x
- Hyper-converged virtualizations platforms
- Application Virtualization in a VDI environment
- Experience with Microsoft Azure Stack and Virtualization environments
- Linked clone VDI architecture for VM Horizon implementations
- Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Professional/Expert (MCSP/MCSE)
- VMware Certified Associate (VCA) and/or VMware Certified Professional – 5.0 or higher, Datacenter Virtualization, Desktop
- Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization, Networking
