Senior Instrument Designer

The Senior Instrument Designer will be responsible for designing and implementing instrument and control systems for oil and gas refineries and chemical plants. The role involves leading design teams, ensuring quality control, and providing technical direction to meet project requirements and client standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of instrument and control systems for oil and gas refineries and chemical plants.
- Direct and coordinate members of design teams in their daily tasks, ensuring effective time management and quality control.
- Redline and review P&ID’s, revise interlock schematics and motor schematics, create wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, demo packages, and I/O loading.
- Design Junction Boxes, Marshalling Panels, and DCS/PLC Cabinets with Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Create Instrument Installation Details and generate material take-offs to support estimates.
- Develop conduit and cable tray drawings, including support details and sizing calculations based on applicable codes and client standards.
- Apply knowledge of electrical low voltage applications to support instrumentation design, including 120 VAC & 24 VDC power to instruments, 120 VAC instrument power panels, and general NEC grounding/bonding requirements.
- Conduct field surveys and plan/execute hot/cold cutovers.
- Interface effectively with clients and demonstrate accountability for all work product deliverables with limited direction.
- Utilize high proficiency in 2D AUTOCAD, EXCEL, MicroStation, CADWORX, BlueBeam, and ACCESS.
- Apply all client Safety Policies consistently.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in Instrument & Control System Design for oil and gas refineries and chemical plants.
- Proven design ability and effective time management skills.
- Experience in directing and coordinating design team members, quality control, and providing technical direction.
- Strong detail design technical knowledge.
- Proficiency with 2D AUTOCAD, EXCEL, MicroStation, CADWORX, BlueBeam, and ACCESS.
- Proven experience with fiber routing and general knowledge.
- Self-motivated with good client interface skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and adhere to safety policies.
