Job Description
Determine and execute actions for a wide range of assignments involving combinations of complex features. Design, customize, oversee, and/or evaluate specialized systems, processes, and applications pertaining to the performed work and the delivery of its design, end products, or services. Formulate, execute, advice on, and explain recommendations or solutions to modify standard practices, equipment, processes, and techniques and resolve a wide variety of complex problems. Calculate stresses and acting forces using the suite of John Crane Engineering tools. Act as a principal contributor on team-based projects or coordinate a team project and provide technical oversight and direction. Prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs and reports.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Formulates detailed technical projects and procedures to test company products for their intended applications.
- Designs or customizes, specifies materials of construction and purchases components for specialized test equipment used to evaluate company products.
- Coordinates project schedules and equipment utilization, including estimating man‑hour requirements and cost estimates.
- Writes, reviews, and edits technical reports using Microsoft Office® and Adobe Acrobat®.
- Able to assemble, align, connect sensors, plumb, and conduct test rig setups as required.
- Working knowledge of high-pressure plumbing, pumps and fluid flow systems.
- 3-D modeling in Solid Edge.
- Familiarity of FEA modeling and analysis is a plus but not required.
- Understanding of instrumentation, the different methods of measuring variable and instrumentation wiring circuits.
- Familiar with calibration methods and the ability to perform standard calibrations on instrumentation.
- PLC programming support and troubleshooting a plus but not required.
- Supports and complies with company's ISO-9001, 14001 and 18001 policies.
- Capable of troubleshooting and taking corrective action for test rig failure.
- Ability to coordinate activities and work with other employees on testing programs. Assist others with tasks not specifically assigned to the team.
The Individual
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or comparable engineering discipline or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of technical lab experience or testing experience
- Experience with 3D modeling, Solid Edge is preferred.
- Ability to design, build and troubleshoot and run product testing.
- Must have a good knowledge of metrology instrumentation and instrumentation for measurement of speed, temperature, pressure, power and flow.
- Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to write and edit comprehensive technical reports.
- Must be able to plan, schedule, and support the workflow of mechanical research technicians.
