Responsibilities
• Learn the Schmalz Material Handling Systems products and apply them on application projects
• Create and maintain CAD designs, design calculations and other documentation (drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters, and /performance guarantees) for future reference
• Handle a mix of full project designs, small design tasks and various project tasks
• Prepare dimensional drawings, approval drawings, assembly drawings and other complex drawings
• Support end customers & application engineers from the office and occasionally on-site
• Revise and update existing drawings to reflect design changes, in collaboration with project manager, to ensure consistent documentation of the project
• Review specifications and other customer documentation for full understanding of the SOW
• Be on customer site as required for review of design details as well as installations, run off, and troubleshooting
• Assist Handling Systems applications engineers in testing projects
• Support local product development, which includes but is not limited to design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing and product roll-out
• Collaborate and work with product managers to design and manufacture products from the local product pipeline
• Work with colleagues at corporate headquarters and participate in global product development as needed
• Revise and update drawings from Germany headquarters for manufacturing/assembly floor (Raleigh, NC) to ensure consistent documentation of the project
• Work with Project Manager on guidelines for drawings which meet and exceed the customer’s requirements. Implement these requirements on drawings sent to the customer.
• Interface with machine shops to manufacture designed parts and verify their spec and tolerances with the created drawings
• Serve as an information source on planning and design of equipment assemblies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of third-party items and services data base. Review and modify information with collaboration from the project manager. Make data available to application engineers and project managers
• Create operating manuals as necessary for new designs
• Other duties as required relating to CAD database management, PLM, etc.
• Support other colleagues when necessary, including assisting in assembly services
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ME preferred)
• Seven or more years of experience in design, testing, and development of new products
• Proficient in 3D CAD design; Solidworks is preferred
• Experience creating engineering drawings
• Familiarity with FEA analysis and BTH standards is preferred
• Superior communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, and function independently.
• Must be able to organize and prioritize work
• Strong time management skills with an emphasis on professionalism, flexibility, and service orientation
