General Summary Description
Client is seeking a self-motivated GPS technician to work with construction crews on grading, excavation, and utility installation projects. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment, contributing to construction layout, site stakeout, and data acquisition tasks. This role offers exposure to the latest industry technology, including 3D machine control, data acquisition, modeling software (CAD & Trimble Business Center), and GNSS hardware.
Duties/Responsibilities
•Utilize Trimble survey equipment and software
•Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
•Apply mathematical skills in various tasks
•Understand and execute detailed written or oral instructions and interpret construction plan sets
•Exhibit problem-solving skills
•Meet physical requirements related to movement and lifting
•Use Carlson for staking, design, and making on-site changes
•Build models for machine control
•Achieve finish grades for roads and parking lots
•Model and troubleshoot equipment issues
•Analyze information from contract drawings, specifications, and surveys to reconcile conflicts
•Verify field information for accuracy and adherence to issued plans
•Maintain an organized file system
•Train field-level employees on GPS details and equipment usage
•Service and resolve GPS equipment issues independently or with vendors
•Maintain relationships with equipment vendors
Minimum Requirements, Abilities, and Expectations
•Experience recording topographic data, performing volume calculations, verifying data for construction, performing site stakeout, and construction layout
•Proficiency in operating a Trimble GPS Base and Rover
•Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries
•Insurable driving record
•At least 2 years of related experience and/or training
