SUMMARY
The Process Engineer assists manufacturing operations acting as a link between design engineering and the shop floor technical activities. Lead in the creating and improving manufacturing processes within the machine shop for new or existing company products. Individuals in this position are comfortable working virtually in a CAD, and ERP environment as well as with their hands in a testing or production environment. Process Engineer’s can work independently to accomplish many tasks and often collaborate with Design Engineers, Area Managers and Supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing processes during new product development and guides the transition into production.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineering to develop processes complete and accurate during NPD, and C.I. department to maintain/improve processes during production phase
- Develop best practices around current manufacturing capabilities and works to advance company capabilities
- Manage prototype process execution, and measure process capability
- Assist with setting up (tooling, gaging, inspection) manual and CNC machines
- Develop work instructions and process plans for a wide range of manufactured components
- Work with vendors to ensure consumables are stocked and available for production
- Provides shop floor support by answering questions and requests, etc.
- Improves workflow within shop through C.I. initiatives including but not limited to Kaizen events, lean activities etc.
- Calculate or use data from surrogate processes to predict process takt time & balance operations/stations capacity.
- Initiate product engineering concern reports & change requests supported by relevant data
- Point of contact for Product Engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability
- Perform root cause analysis, develop interim containment actions & implement permanent corrective actions for non-conforming product
- This position has an estimated travel requirement of less than 10%.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Competent with a CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
- Possesses familiarity with time studies
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Ability to view and solve manufacturing problems before they occur
- Ability to team with other Manufacturing Engineering Team members, Operations, Design Engineers, Quality Engineers and production personnel to meet internal and external needs.
- Ability to lead machine shop personnel in best practices
- Experience setting up manual and CNC lathes and mills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A journeymen’s card in machine trades or equivalent is required and an additional (5+) years of related experience is preferred. Understanding of engineering concepts required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, symbols, electrical diagrams etc.
REASONING ABILITY
Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also requires the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The position requires reviewing historical data and adapting it to new situations. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks under deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Some of those functions include: sitting and working at desk frequently; working at computer station; talking on phone; climbing up and down stairs; walking shop floor; standing, stooping, bending, reaching, crawling, and occasionally lifting 50 lbs. or less, standing while attending shop machinery.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation may be located on the 2nd floor. The employee works in the office setting but does have frequent interaction with the shop floor. On the shop floor, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Frequent forklift traffic exists for material handling. The noise level in the work environment is mixed and air temperature fluctuates with the seasonal weather.
