Job Overview
The Safety Consultant is a safety professional who plays a vital role in developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and policies across the organizations. This role involves conducting safety audits, assessments and training as well as ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards. This position is responsible for providing expert guidance on safety-related regulations and standards, as well as best practices, to each affiliate at the professional level.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety management, including experience
with OSHA-related safety audits, workplace safety evaluations, compliance with OSHA and local
government regulations, workplace safety analysis, safety incident management and prevention, and safety consultation. The position also requires close collaboration with the General Affairs Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct onsite workplace safety audits, assessments, and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Determine corrective or preventive measures to minimize workplace safety incidents and accidents.
- Create audit and inspection reports to document and follow up on the abatement list.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
- Monitor OSHA-related reporting, record keeping, and posting requirements status and ensure compliance with required OSHA regulations.
- Investigate and analyze safety incidents to determine the root causes and recommend solutions for preventing recurrences.
- Provide expert guidance and support to affiliates on safety and health-related issues.
- Establish and execute emergency action plans (EAP) and conduct assessments for affiliates.
- Develop safety training and education programs for employees and affiliates at all levels.
- Develop and conduct safety seminars (or webinars) on applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Provide expert guidance and consulting to affiliates on OSHA compliance and safety issues based on hazard analysis and risk assessment
- Follow up on OSHA-related violations and citation cases.
- Research and stay updated on up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislations, industry standards, and best practices in safety management
- Lead and participate in safety committee meetings and initiatives for affiliates.
- Perform other safety-related duties as required and assigned
Competencies:
- Expertise in Environmental and Occupational Safety, and Health.
- In-depth understanding of company goals, company business priorities, strategy, and direction
- Problem-solving: develop innovative and creative output based on interpretation and analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Active participation in setting department/team objectives to meet the plan
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO and other relevant safety regulations
- The following safety-related certifications are preferred:
o OSHA Safety Certificate,
o Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
o Certified Safety Professional (CSP),
o Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST)
o Safety Management Specialist (SMS)
o Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or
o Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field required
- Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, safety management system (SMS), and safety learning management system (LMS) system
- Must be willing to travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- A current or former employee of OSHA or DOL who conducted safety & health inspections preferred
- OSHA 501 Authorized Outreach Trainer preferred (Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry)
- 6+ years of experience in the field of OSHA compliance preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
Travel:
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
The anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in Los Angeles, CA is $110K to $120K. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be subject to several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of the candidate’s experience within the job; type and length of experience within the specific industry; educational background; and the location of employment. This salary range may not reflect the pay scale for employees who work in other states.
