Description
Mechanical Prototyping Engineers at Atomic Alchemy are responsible for the rapid iteration and investigation of designs for various systems. This includes creative conceptual design, selection and sourcing of materials, selection of manufacturing techniques, and assembly of prototypes. Additionally, Mechanical Prototyping Engineers will be involved in testing and deploying various prototypes and testing skids.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and subsystems using CAD software
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering teams to define design requirements and ensure designs meet those requirements
- Provide technical feedback to other engineering design teams
- Plan for the manufacturing and assembly of components and subsystems
- Source parts and components from various suppliers
- Construct, test, and deploy various prototypes and testing skids
- Work with engineering analysis teams to support analyses, which can include thermal, stress, fatigue, tolerance, safety, manufacturability, and assemblability
- Document work using modern tools and techniques, and write clear, thoughtful technical reports
- Travel to various sites as required to commission & develop new designs, as well as troubleshoot and solve problems with existing designs
Experience level: Entry level (0-2yrs) Intermediate (2-5 yrs) or Experienced (5-10 yrs)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or other engineering discipline
- Experience designing and deploying mechanical or fluid/mass flow systems
- Experience in design for manufacturing and assembly
- Proficiency in a CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, OnShape)
Bonus Qualifications:
- Hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly (e.g., welding, CNC machining)
- Experience with engineering simulation software, such as STAR-CCM+
- Experience with testing, data acquisition, and data collection
- Fluency in Python
