Our client is seeking a qualified Controls Engineer to join their factory infrastructure engineering team in Austin, TX. You will play a pivotal role in the design of complex manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Application based sizing and selection of Instruments and Control devices required to operate and optimize complex mechanical and process systems, including HVAC, Chilled Water, Compressed Air, etc.
- Create, review and update Controls engineering documentation and drawings.
- Initiate instrument datasheets, RFQ packages and perform technical bid evaluations to procure Controls devices.
- Work with vendors and contractors to review designs and ensure that they meet Tesla quality and documentation standards.
- Participate in development of scalable network architectures for plant wide high reliability control systems.
- Work closely with HMI developers and programmers to optimize data exchange and enhance system usability.
- Support the Construction team and Contractors to optimally execute scopes of work.
- Review 2D and 3D drawings, provide feedback to design and drafting team to update per technical changes.
- Provide expertise and support for system outages and failover incidents.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in an Engineering field (Majors in: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Instrumentation Engineer, Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
- Experience with control valve sizing, datasheet initiation and ANSI standards for Instrumentation.
- Ability to review mechanical, process and plumbing drawings to properly size and select flow, pressure and temperature sensors.
- Familiarity with Controls based software like SPI (InTools) to initiate Instrument lists, wiring terminations, calibrated ranges etc.
- Configuration of controls networks including, Ethernet/IP, Profinet and Serial Communication
- Advanced knowledge of industrial process and manufacturing equipment, including safety systems. Should be proficient in Siemens, Allen Bradly, or Beckhoff. Familiar with HMI – Ignition and Wincc is a plus
- Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware remote I/O, VFD and instrumentation, experience transitioning products and processes from concept to production is desired.
- Advanced proficiency in modern text-based programming languages (Python, Java, C, VB) and database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Access) is a plus
