Job Overview:
The Application/Project Engineer is responsible for working with project managers, design engineers, process engineers, and the engineering manager to manage project data, engineering design data, solid models, drafted documentation, as well as parts lists, bill of materials, and other component related information critical to the success of the project. The engineer will perform a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Gather and organize information to assist in developing designs, specifications, and drawings of equipment.
- Design products as needed to meet ASME design requirement.
- Work in tandem with the process engineer to provide a complete mechanical design for vessels and piping systems, which can then be modeled and drafted by design engineers
- Interpret and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for upstream, mid-stream and downstream facilities.
- Perform component selection such as instrumentations, controls, measurements and manual valves for piping and vessel system based off the P&ID and customer specification sheets.
- Conduct Material Take Off (MTOs) from customer supplied or internally created models and drawings
- Prepare dimensional surveys and “as-built” drawings
- Liaise with project managers and design engineers and assist in interpreting project and product requirements
- Assist in the development of company designed systems, standards, products, and procedures
- Support work for proposals and projects, working to tight deadlines
- Perform engineering checks and component verifications
- Participate in design reviews
- Monitor the design and drafting related to projects, and report to the engineering manager
- Work with the Applications Engineer to refine and revise process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and design drawings
- Size and develop control, measurements, manual valve and instrument lists based off of the PFD and P&ID; create long lead items lists.
- Work with the Supply Chain team for specification and procurement of long lead time items.
- Assist supply chain with providing alternate for instrumentations, control valves and measurements which have long lead times.
- Organize the approval process of engineering documentation required between departments (Sales, Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and the Customer)
- Provide estimating support for RFQ / Proposals, working closely with Sales and Project Management departments to ensure the technical aspects of the estimate are accurate.
- Proactively anticipate the problems and issues and risks associated with project execution and take proactive steps to mitigate as necessary
- Provides subject matter expertise for assigned manufacturing processes and product lines.
Required Skills or Tools:
- Self-starter that demonstrates initiative; ability to take direction and act independently
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret and create engineering drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, General Arrangement drawings, piping systems, etc.; Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively apply industry codes and standards (ASME, B31.3 piping, AWS, API, ASTM, NACE, OSHA, etc.)
- Knowledge of piping and pipe schedules, flanges, fittings,
- Knowledge of valves and instruments used in oilfield production equipment
- Knowledge of industry ASME design standards (encouraged)
- Knowledge of API design standards (encouraged)
- Prior experience in oilfield surface production equipment a plus – skidded packaged systems
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft office;
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
- Must possess good time management and prioritizing skills.

Education:
- Bachelor's (Required)
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Petroleum (Preferred)
Experience:
- Working knowledge and applied experience of NACE MR0175
- Knowledge of structural skid packages
- Knowledge of COMPRESS vessel code software
- Knowledge of Solidworks and Autocad
- Experience with oil and gas related production equipment (separators, heaters, tanks, piping systems, well manifolds, VRTs, VRUs, LACT Units, etc.)
- Working knowledge of on-skid electrical and instrumentation; ability to read electrical diagrams
