The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead a team of manufacturing engineers to actively support the assembly and production builds of our Subsurface Compressor Systems (SCS), including motor, magnetic couplings, compressor and other associated parts. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead the manufacturing engineering team and work with the test, engineering and assembly teams for successful New Product Introduction (NPI); cost reduction; troubleshooting; improving build reliability; implementing processes and improvements; reducing build lead times, developing tooling, performing build automation and ensuring consistent build quality.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and mentor engineers in a collaborative and safe environment.
• Hands-on leader, who is highly engaged in supporting the builds.
• Focus on removing operational barriers, solving problems and troubleshooting issues in builds and tests.
• Lead cross-functional teams to implement best-in-class builds processes into the design process to improve build productivity and eliminate quality issues.
• Develop, maintain and continuously improve process and capability.
• Own implementation of lessons learned during builds and testing.
• Develop and implement plans for FOD prevention.
• Support new designs and design changes so they are cost effectively built, assembled and tested. • Responsible for processes, such as work instructions, routers, QA forms, BOM, etc.
• Assist with dispositioning discrepant material ensuring design intent is met.
• Support make or buy decisions
• Oversee the transition from prototype builds to highly systematic, process driven builds with a focus on operational excellence.
• Implement lean principles, including value mapping to drive value added activities.
• Inspect parts using inspection tools and gauges.
• Generate design solutions for production builds and development test rigs.
• Support testing of prototype hardware and the design of test rigs to validate designs.
• Design tooling and fixtures. Specify capital equipment to support build and assembly. This includes managing internal and external suppliers.
• Oversee installation and debug of tooling and capital equipment.
• Projects are completed on time meeting design, quality, reliability and cost criteria.
• Support assembly metrics to drive performance, quality, safety, inventory and delivery.
Skills and Experience:
• Requires B.S. degree in a technical field (Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• A minimum of 7 years progressive and related experience required.
• Solid 3D mechanical design experience using CAD with SolidWorks experience a plus.
• Strong understanding of geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, dimensional stack-ups, inspection procedures and metrology equipment.
• Experience building turbomachinery, which includes high-speed rotating equipment, electric motors, compressors, and oil management systems.
• Familiar with creating ERP system BOM’s & Routers, experience with Global Shop is a plus.
• Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes for complex, precision turbo machinery: casting, machining, milling, grinding, rotor balancing, mechanical and electrical assembly, inspection techniques, oil management systems (tubing, fittings, etc.) and pressurized assemblies.
• Experience with NPI of complex equipment.
• Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, Demand Flow Technology, Lean Manufacturing, ISO 9001 experience is a plus.
• Experience configuring assembly lines, in-process Kanban’s and visual work instructions is a plus. • Good interpersonal and interfacing skills a plus (i.e. communicating well with people across different departments both internally and externally).
• Additional computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands:
Time will be split between office and shop floor. Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, or masks may be required in some assembly areas. Some travel will be required as needed for vendor visits/qualifications.
