Trueline’s client, a full-service and culture-focused national law firm, is seeking a School Law Attorney to join their Local Government Practice Group serving the Chicagoland area. This is an opportunity to work with a firm named to US News’ “Best Law Firms” lists for five years running, AM Best’s “Client Recommended” list, and a certified Great Place to Work.
The Labor Relations Attorney will provide legal services to school districts and other government entities on matters related to employment, collective bargaining, contract drafting, and daily operational issues. This position offers flexibility and can be full- or part-time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent local government and education entities as legal counsel in labor law related court litigation and third-party proceedings, such as grievance arbitrations, impasse proceedings, and mediations.
- Provide general counsel services, including attendance at board meetings, to school districts and other local governmental bodies.
- Handle matters of board governance, labor relations, student disciplinary, residency, and special education issues as well as tenured teacher and employee dismissal hearings and procedures
- Draft and review various contracts, including procurement of products and services and professional services
- Lead collective bargaining and administrative litigation efforts
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft memorandums on a variety of legal issues.
Qualifications:
- First chair collective bargaining agreement negotiations experience HIGHLY preferred
- Understanding of Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board and NLRB issues regarding unfair labor practices and unit certification
- Excellent administrative hygiene and attention to detail
- Active Illinois bar license required
